Re: Do you own a gun?

more like 400yards, and I am NOT kidding. I hit the shotgun shell. I've only done it once outta like 4 trys :P I know 22's are weak, but they are fun. They are much better than a pellet gun.. right? I pesonally love 30-30's (i think it's a 30-30..) .. which i forgot to mention it, but my grandfather has one of those too. I LOVE it. I don't know why, but in my view, his looks similar to the kar (old german ww2 rifle) and i LOVE the feel of it. I LOVE IT!!

Re: Do you own a gun?

I just want to state for the record that the .22LR is probably the best caliber out there... If for no other reason than it's cost. The key to shooting well is to shoot a lot. .22s let you do that. They're lightweight, subsonic, and, as stated, have very little recoil. Many chamberings in both rifles and handguns. Fantastic for learning to shoot. Even better for plinking.

Re: Do you own a gun?

I currently own a handful of different guns. I have one pistol which is a Smith and Wesson SW99 9mm, a vintage Savage Arms double barrel 16g shotgun, a single shot .22 long rifle, a chinese sks, a saiga rifle (mock ak-47), 2 30-30 rifles, and I'm in the process of building a bushmater AR-15 with my father. I have my class A which in the state of Massachusetts allows me to carry a concealed weapon which I have yet to do as I haven't needed to do so.

Also my father has a collection of guns that he's been gathering and some day they will be all mine. He has many vintage guns and I'm sure there will be more coming due to him recently obtaining a Curios or Relic license.

I just got one of these in .40 for Xmas. It is a nice pistol! Only problem is that it's hard to find holsters for it... The Walther P99 has a different shaped trigger guard, and that's the pistol that most holster makers are using...

Your right on that. The godfather of my son actually made me a custom shoulder holster but now I gotta get another pistol to fill the other side. I'd like to get my hands on a Smith and Wesson 1911 .45. I could always take my father's.

Re: Do you own a gun?

I don't own a gun. (I'm 15 in Minnesotah and my mom's a Quaker). However, despite the odds, I plan on getting one. The first thing to do will definately be go through many, many classes on safety, maintenance, and the whole lot. I'm not one of those kinds who belives that just because I play 4+ hours of shooting games I know everything about guns. When I read Sniper's first post about the .22 shot I though "Holy s*!t that's good". Then I saw the B.S. meter and had to rethink (sorry, Sniper) a little. In the end I just want one for taking out to the range and....*pop* *pop* *pop*.

Re: Do you own a gun?

I could have been fun if the poll also asked why people own a gun. Is it for target practice, personal protection, hunting?

I own 3 guns.

A 12 gauge shootgun and a .308 rifle for hunting.
And a .22 cal for sportsshootning. Been a sportsshooter for almost 16 years now.
I only compete at 15 meter because I like the standing shooting position. If I were to compete at 50 meters, I would have to start training the proned and crouching shooting positions, and I really hate them. .22 cal is not used in competition on distances greater than 50 meters.
Unfortunatly I don't have a picture of my sports rifle, but I got one of my hunting rifle.
Too bad that it havent been fired yet in a hunting situation. :-( But the day will come.

PS: Target practice with optical sights are for whimps. ;-D

Re: Do you own a gun?

Sniper, you know a football field is only 100 yards right? Not 1000.

Just for information, 500 yards is a quarter mile or so. There's no way anyone could hit a 1/4 inch target at a 500 yards with a garden variety .22 with a scope. Not on purpose anyway. I punched those numbers into my ballistics spreadsheet, and at a 1750 fps muzzle velocity (the fastest I could find for a .22 long), with 0 wind, you'd have -186.3 inches of drop. The time in the air is just over one second.

Actually he did say 50 yards. I think he saw your reply and was discounting what you said about DdogG. I was fine with the 50 yards but he came back and said "500 yards, probably closer to 400 yards".

Edit: Of course, I didn't read the whole thread before I posted and he already admitted to what I was thinking.

Re: Do you own a gun?

Yah, I figured he didn't mean 500 yards. Nice shooting though, even at 50 yards you have about 1.5 inches of drop. Aim for the top of that shotgun shell.
