Fenix.. Apophis... that's arguably unnecessary provocation ("porno") followed by unnecessary sarcasm ("forget the link?").

It's crap like this that sends threads into the ditches (and keeps potential participants away from this forum). Keep it polite.

Well, I'd also like to hear Apophis's examples of leftist hate on cable news. As for Fox, I can give you John Gibson, who recently said that it was Americans' patriotic duty to have more babies, because in 25 years the population will otherwise be majority Hispanic (note: not illegal, just Hispanic. Oh no!). I'm not sure if he meant to be tongue in cheek, but he said it with a straight face and it seemed awfully racist.
Last week we had a couple anchors (I don't have the reference footage in front of me, of course) talking about nuking Iran. Several networks floated this meme, but Fox gave it extra punch and credibility by bringing in a lot of warhawks to talk about it (just as a hypothetical, mind you).
And any one of numerous examples of O'Reilly or one of his guests declaring that anyone who disagrees with them is a traitor and deserves to be shot or deported. Or, let's not be coy, implying that Democrats and liberals hate children, love rapists, and are the source of all evil in the world.

You want an example of leftist hate in the media? Listen to Air America Radio. If you want an extra dose of hate, make sure you listen to Randi Rhodes.

Regarding evacuation of hurricane Katrina victims:

Also regarding the loss of life during hurricane Katrina:

As for the Fox news bit, they love drama. They love pitting radicals on both sides of the issue, it stirs up a lot of controversy and apparently ratings. When they really want things to get crazy, they'll bring in Ann Coulter.

Wait a minute. Randi Rhodes and Air America exist as a direct counter to rightwing radio. I don't endorse it - I think most of their programming is vapid and reactionary, but so are their ideological enemies. The one could not exist without the rise of the other. Who was getting news from Air America before making the transition to Fox?

It's just an example of leftist hate in the media. One that I could readily provide quotes for while at work with limited time. One could argue that FNC was a direct counter to left wing television and would have never found a niche if it wasn't for an existing power situation with said left wing television stations.

I think comparing the evacuation of Katrina refugees to the holocost is a rather hateful, and spiteful thing to do. Many of the shows on Air America don't even TALK about Fox. They go after any and every Republican figure they can find.

Are you not going to allow Air America as an example of hatemongering in the left wing media because you don't endorse it and find it as vapid and reactionary? Does that make them simply not exist?

I watch FOX, read CNN, and listen to Air America in conjunction with other shows, radio programs and print/internet news mediums. I do this on a VERY regular basis so I keep keep constant input from a variety of sources that are used to help inform me as to what all these media outlets are doing and then top it all off with a little dose of Drudge.

If you hate Fox and never watch Fox because of what is said on Air America or CBS, you're only ever going to get a small portion of the big picture. On the same token, if you never listen to Air America because Bill O'Rielly bashes them on Fox, you're going to miss an alternative chunk of that very same picture.

He said he had a headline, I only assumed that he forgot to link the headline/article. I didn't make much of anything of the use of the word "porno" other than for humors sake and certainly didn't think his intent was to be hostile.

But you're setting up Fox as a fair and sensible reaction to a leftist media establishment. I'm still trying to figure out what about the existing media establishment is a) leftist, b) hate-filled, and c) ideologically offensive. Air America does not represent the major networks (Randi Rhodes could never get a show on NBC, for example), so let's compare apples to apples. Give me some examples from network or mainstream news that offended you, and how Fox is an escape from that.

I'm not asking to be difficult, I'm genuinely interested.

Re: Why I laugh at people calling FOX News 'objective'

I am not the most knowledgable person in this area but here goes. Does the USA today releasing classified information count as ideologically offensive in terms of possibly sabotaging what the president is trying to do or Peter Jennings going on air with a false document that wasn't researched considered hate mongering.

Aren't these things directly aimed at making the President look bad. Is that not an agenda? To me it looks that way. So I do believe there is biased media on both sides of the politcal media.

I don't believe Apophis was stating that Fox network was unbiased I think he was stating that all networks have a political agenda. JMHO

I think the actual Fox news reports are pretty fair. But that's referring to the actual news reports, not commentary/talk shows.

Re: Why I laugh at people calling FOX News 'objective'

I don't really see at all how Air America can be grouped with other news outlets, as evidence of their 'liberal hate'.

Apples and oranges...

The Daily Show on the other hand is the smartest and funniest show on TV. Is there a progressive bent? Yes. Is it a partisan bent? Hell, no. Check out their show last night. Although there was a lovely montage of several Fox News anchors giving the 'Fox Spin' on the NSA data mining story (which I'll provide a link to ASAP), the follow up story on Hillary Clinton and then the interview with Howard Dean clearly show that TDS is not in the pocket of the democratic party by a long shot.

There's a torrent link to the show on mininova, and it replays on CC at 7:00 EDT. Last night's show really hit the nail on the head several times, but the montage was the highlight for me.

Incidentally, I get my news from NY Times, NPR, AP, Reuters, and several news aggregators. I think when you refer to 'people getting their news from The Daily Show', you're referring to 'TV News'? Is there a link with this stat? Or that could be wrong, but while the only thing close to 'TV News' that I watch regularly is TDS, it's a big media world out there and there are lots of sources of news.

Well, on the topic of hatemongering on the liberal side of the fence, I would have to disagree. You can't really say that because they show evidence of 'liberal hate' they are disqualified as being part of the media. Air America is a news talk network, they are indeed part of the media. To disqualify them would require disqualification of any other news talk shows utilizing the same medium.

I just find it odd that Air America isn't accepted here. We talked about liberal slant and hatemongering in the media and I provided a radio network that is nationally syndicated. We're not talking about an obscure web site or local/regional talk radio program.

I provided examples of the type of reports and content that airs on the network and it's discounted because.. Well.. I honestly don't understand why it's being discounted. My first reaction would be to say that it's discounted because it does show a liberal slant in the media, which is something that some folks don't want to admit exists, but I'm not sure that would be a fair assessment.

Can someone explain why Air America doesn't count when it comes to promotion a liberal agenda while FNC counts when it comes to promoting a conservative agenda?

I really wish I could find the source for the poll. IIRC, it was aiming at the primary source of news for people in their 20's. It was alarming to see that The Daily Show was considered a primary news source and not a secondary or entertainment news source. I'll look more this evening to see if I can dig up the original poll. I don't recall it being exclusive to TV news sources, but I could be wrong.

Are you choosing to ignore the rest of the content citing FNC reporters and their criticism of the current administration? If FNC openly criticices the current administration, how can they be "completely whoring themselves out" to the Republican party?

Was it alarming because "The 'actual' news media is garbage" or because "kids are stupid?" I trust John Stewart's writers more than I trust other news sources. Granted, I usually stick to the Internet for news now.
