I wish John Candy were still with us. Because, I mean, he'd launch the northern attack on Mexico. Into Canada.

Well you see its mainly because we did that 150 years ago, and all that happened because of that was that they ended up with relatives already living in our country encouraging them to come on over and enjoy.

Yeah, huge problem with Chinese and Korean hookers being smuggled into the US through Canada. Lots of Middle Easterners enter through Canada, too. The problem, IMO, is Canada's weak immigration policy. They grant "landed immigrant" status (which is similar to our Permanent Resident status) to just about anyone... Then these Canadian immigrants take advantage of our border that has weak security due to our great relationship with our neighbors to the North.

But you bring up a bigger problem: American's don't realize just how open our borders are. It's obvious why the US Gov't doesn't publicize it, we don't want our enemies to know our weakness (either real or political). Americans need to know that potential terrorists are being smuggled into the US. Americans need to know that the Mexican Army is escorting drugs into the US. Americans need to know just how weak our security really is...

I'm not sure that it's the best answer, but it would certainly send a strong message if done right temporarily. Maybe for one year? At the same time, double the size of the US Border Patrol and ICE. Have the USBP dominate the border, while ICE plugs along in the interior (with actual interior patrol)...

The US-Canadian border is the longest unprotected border in the world, no?

Perhaps this documentary would give everyone an idea of what would be valuable on the border? It's about an hour and is made by the American Border Patrol, a citizen group that is highly critical of the illegal immigration problem. It documents Border Patrol apprehensions using helo, UAV, ATV, IR cameras, motion sensors and traditional ground units. This video has a LOT of USBP radio transmissions, which surprised me. Check it out:

My understanding is that 'unprotected' means without a condom. But I don't see how that relates to this conversation...

Interesting video link. I'll give it a look. Thanks!

Re: Deploying the National Guard at the Mexican Border

Did you guys read today the leader of mexico is calling that move a joke move from bush because his popularity rating is so low he is trying anything. and he said it could alter the election in mexico. He was also mad because this would mess up the economic bridge he has worked so hard to build with the US and Mexico.

So because we are taking a step to stop illegals and protect our boarders, we are to blame for the mexican governments problems

That has occurred to me. I think one could consider this an invasion without straying too far into the Land of Wingnut.

Re: Deploying the National Guard at the Mexican Border

My only criticism of this is that it isn't done fast enough. It's not about handfuls of illegal immigrants meandering their way in a daily game. There is big business, big corruption involved. I posted a bunch of things in the "Annex Mexico" thread:

http://www.tacticalgamer.com/500673-post17.html

http://www.tacticalgamer.com/500825-post19.html

Every day we don't do this, the Mexican drug lords and their proxies in government laugh and light another cigar.
