I'm happy to see Day After Tomorrow mentioned. It inspired Team America, which I like.

Kung Pow has a very split audience. It's definitely dependent on what kind of humor you like. My brother loves that movie, and several of my other friends like it. I, on the other hand, thought it was painful.

Team America was great. "They're heading east down Bakkalakkadakka street!"

Re: Worst movies ever?

Has anyone mentioned the movie Doom yet? I loved how the Rock would tell his squad to stay together right everytime before he tell's them to split up to look for whatever they were looking for-

#1 for me is Memoirs of a Geisha- my wife tricked me into watching it by telling me it was exactly like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon...its not...at all.

Re: Worst movies ever?

I haven't seen it listed yet, which utterly astounds me. Hands down the worst movie I've ever paid to watch. I left the theatre after in tears after watching the atrocity that Chris Roberts put on the screen.

Wing Commander.

I was always a big fan of the Wing Commander games. I've played and beaten all of them as far as I know. The biggest problem for me I suppose is that the *games* had better casting than the movie. Going back to one of the other movies that I actually liked, but nobody else seemed to..Rico from Starship Troopers was an *extra* in Wing Commander 4. His only part on screen was picking up Chris Blair's bag on the flight deck. I think Jürgen Prochnow was the only person I'd even heard of in the actual movie.

The games had some of the all time greats, Malcom Mcdowell (Star Trek : Generations is one of his more popular roles I think) played Admiral Tolwyn. John-Rhyes Davies (Gimli in LOTR) was James "Paladin" Taggert, Jason Bernard (mostly did TV shows, but had a part as the Judge in Liar Liar) as Captain Eisen, Thomas Wilson (Biff from Back to the Future) was Maniac, Mark Hamill (I'm sure you all know Luke Skywalker) was Christopher Blair, and the pilot that you controlled in 3 and 4. You controlled Steven Pretarca (another TV series actor, had a part in The Ring 2.) as Lt. Casey.

If old Chris had put that effort into the movie, it would probably have been alright, but as it was....ugh. The Kilrathi weren't even furry! I mean a race of giant, psychotic cats, and they didn't even have fur, or claws of their own for that matter. The Ships were an utter atrocity, and didn't even come close to the designs that were used in any of the games.

Re: Worst movies ever?

I agree, compared to the books the movie is terrible, but I still liked it. Sort of like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie omitted some of the best stuff, and added in things that were nowhere in the book. Book better, movie ok.

Re: Worst movies ever?

I agree that starship troopers was a horrible movie. With the exception of a couple of names and very few events, it had NOTHING to do with the book. They left out the Padre for the love of god! Plus, Paul Verhoeven, the director, is horribly anti-military, which is why he made the officers look like Gestapo/SS and designed the federation logo to look like the Nazi War Eagle. Dont believe me: check out the similarity.

They took a wonderful book and ripped it to shreds. Worst movie ever.

Re: Worst movies ever?

I really like Starship Troopers. It's utterly campy and I can't explain why I like it, but I do.

I completely understand how it could wind up on many "worst ever" lists. I never read the book, which I'm sure helps a lot.

Flashback: Lifeforce. Boy was that a dud. I liked Peter Firth in Equus, but an action hero he was not. Either that or Event Horizon has to be the worst I've ever paid to see.

Edit: dang I forgot Tess. Tess, definitely.

I couldn't agree more. The book was awesome, and the movie made them look like Nazis and total chumps. There was SO much detail that they could have included easily, but nooooo, they had to make it a crappy cartoon. Still, it ain't the worst I've seen.

The worst is probably Fern Gully. I had to watch it in school when I was a little kid, so they could warp my mind into a shape they saw fit. Biggest hippie fest EVER.

Re: Worst movies ever?

I enjoyed them both for different reasons. I read the book again last night...it's brilliant, and I hope this thread gets more people to read it.
