Re: oh yeah, RANT ON (or, "I wish my neighbors would hurry up and die")

Scratch, if you were a homeowner, you might understand a little better.
Not only is it very unsightly to have a yard on the block that looks like the land that time forgot, but real-estate values (especially those of the homeowners adjacent to the property, like JMJ) plummet because of this kind of thing. This meaning, if the pest wont leave and you decide that you will instead, you're going to take a huge loss on your property.

The weeds are in the front, side, and back of the house, covering damn near the entire grass area. They are between 2 and 3' tall. Every single house except theirs on the street has nice green cut grass. Theirs is light green (not fertilized) and mostly weeds....our houses are close together, not on 2 acres each. It's an absolute eyesore.

When I get home I'll snap a photo of the front of the house so you can see the eyesore that the neighbors and I have to look at.

Is that a flag sticker on the back of that SUV? Mexican or Italian?

What makes you think I don't own my house? I bought it to lay back and live in, not as an investment for my neighbors. I'd love to be able to afford a lot big enough that I don't have to see my neighbors, but in California that's out of reach to all but the most wealthy, and they can afford grounds keepers.

Now my neighborhood isn't a row of "crackerjack boxes" all identical, but I have my share of "keeping up with the Jones" rat-race types to worry about. It irks me that it's not enough that I mind my own business and don't tell other people how to live, but that I have to worry about other people's cosmetically-based property values.

Thank you! If your neighbor is not hurting you, leave 'em alone!

""God damnit! Apparently there is no code for 3 foot weeds covering your yard and you doing nothing about it. Gotta be full of fleas, ticks, etc. Code enforcement said if there were rodents in the yard, then they could do something.""

I could fed-x next day delivery, some nice big juicy rats from the feed lot or the bunker silo at the farm if ya like.
then code enforcement could step in.

Re: oh yeah, RANT ON (or, "I wish my neighbors would hurry up and die")

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please,
Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?

Holy shiat! Did the fit hit the shan today! My assumptions were absolutely correct. I thought they were on the skids, on their way to divorceville. He never spends the night at home anymore, and when he does come by, she leaves (presumably so he can spend time with the kids).

My wife and I were sitting on our deck watching crazy actually do some cleaning (we have never seen that before). Her husband comes home and they are doing their own thing. They happen to cross paths and start talking. She goes OFF THE HANDLE! She starts screaming and throwing stuff at him yelling "You stupid F'ing son of a B*tch! blah blah blah blah!!!!". She was slamming the sliding glass door, I thought for sure it was going to break. God I wish I had my digital video going!

He's out there now with tons of large plastic buckets full of stuff...presumably his clothing. I spoke to a few neighbors earlier today and it turns out he has 2 lawsuits against him for shoddy work as a contractor (no shock to me). Boy, they are in deep crap. I actually do feel sorry for their kids.

Cing/Scratch - We are not telling them how to care for their yard. The thing is, it's not common place out here to let your yard gather weeds and grow 4' tall. We are not in a fire zone here in MA. When you have nearly 130 houses on the street and EVERYONE keeps their yards "decent", you should try to do the same (just my opinion). I'm not the only neighbor complaining, it's all of them.

aww, now I feel sorry for them, its one thing to be trashy and happy... But splitting up a family, no matter how dysfunctional. bleh. I suspect I would not feel so sympathetic if they were in fact my neighbors.

Re: oh yeah, RANT ON (or, "I wish my neighbors would hurry up and die")

I have sympathy for the kids, but not the parents. The kids dont have anything to do with what's going on. It's not their job to keep the house and yard maintained, its not their job to control their pets, and it's certainly not their job to keep their parents from acting like idiots. They're innocents in the middle of a bad situation and nothing good ever comes from that.

On the other hand, it looks like you may be free of the bad neighbors soon! You oughtta buy the house on the super-cheap and fix it up and make a killing!

I don't know if it's been suggested before, but if you really want to live in a Stepford neighborhood (I sure don't!), just get a few Stepford neighbors together and buy the guy out. Then sell it to some like-minded suburban rat-racer and put in a deed restriction that requires that they keep their lot looking cookie-cutter neat. You could probably even find a property management company to handle all the paperwork.

No offense, but after reading what you type, I can only assume that you are like my neighbors. This is not a "stepford" neighborhood, it's a nice neighborhood where people take care of their stuff and respect others (except for the piles of crap next door). We live in the city, not in the country. Take a look at these images. If you find this nice, neat, and acceptable, I sure feel sorry for your neighbors.

Their grass next to my driveway. Those weeds are pushing close to 2.5'. Look at all the surrounding yards.......those Stepfords are keeping up their yards! OMG!

My grass on the right, theirs on the left. Theirs is not just "long", it's weed ridden and completely unacceptable.

Up the sidewalk, you can see the neighbor's yard on the other side of them. His grass is usually longer, but it's green and has NO weeds.

Another good view of their backyard and the weeds.

And a nice view of the pool area, complete with the classic "There is no P in Pool" sign.

And the great view from my kitchen and bedroom windows.

My mower isn't powerful enough to touch that. I'm thinking of hiring the kid down the street just to do the portion next to my driveway though.

Yard appearance is to property as hygiene is to a person. Whether you like it or not, it is a reflection on you. You wouldn't go out without brushing your teeth or showering so why would you let your yard turn into a meadow, a dump or both as we see here?
