wish I had more to update...house is still in pre-foreclosure. Been working 6 days a week (on a 40 hour/week salary, yay!) so my web browsing has been limited

OMG.. I just bought an Airsoft for my parents property. They've got some HELL neighbors now with nasty dogs that won't stay off their property. They assault you as soon as you come through the gate at mom and dads.

It's a rental house next door.. If you've seen my boat pics.. their house is behind the boat and the RV, about 50 yards. The house was originally owned by a couple of police officers (mounted patrol) that kept thier horses there on the property. They sold it to someone that clearly couldn't afford it during the property boom here. Now the owners are renting it to some people that just aren't taking care of it (sound familiar JMJ?).

They have five rotten dogs that crap on the yard (mom and dads) and assault any moving creature in the area.

SO.. I thought it would be a safe idea to get an airsoft to start 'training' them with. I picked a Crosman Pulse R74. It's SOLID.. I've never handled it's 'real' model, but it FEELS real.

The accuracy is very good. I was hitting 30yd targets out of the box with only two hours charge on the batteries (four is minimum). I was easily 10/10, which seems unreal to me for an out of the box Chinese airsoft.

Anyhow I look forward to stinging some annoying dogs.. with this accuracy, maybe even planting some harmless plastic 'suppositories' as they run off.. think they'll get the idea?

There's no doubt the dogs will get the idea but I'd be more afraid of the neighbors when they find out you are shooting their dogs. Wouldn't it be better to take it up with the local animal authorities or the police. I'd hate to see some idiot incite violence with you because you were shooting his dog...I mean think about it...you are shooting his dog.

I'd be inclined to use real bullets. The dogs around here are cat killers but could easily do damage to the many kids in the neighborhood, so I'd probably get support from a lot of the parents. Alas, real bullets tend to cause all kinds of additional (legal) grief.

I don't care what you do in your yard. Just don't bring it to mine. And don't tell me how to manage my yard. I'm actually living here, not trying to "flip" it.

I'm with Scratch. I'd talk to the neighbors, express concern about the safety of the dogs and others if the neighbors are unable to control their dogs. Let them know that you will no longer tolerate the dogs attacking you on your own property and that you'll defend yourself.

Airsoft ain't gonna do it, though. Airsoft barely hurts when you're hit in a T-shirt, it sure isn't going to do much for a dog with a fur coat. Consider a real pellet gun if you want to go for non-lethal first. I'd go straight for the shotgun, personally.

I agree with Cing here. Tell them you will defend yourself on your property and that you now consider lunging and barking threatening behavior.

small gauge shotgun with rock salt. the dogs will get the picture and it's nonlethal as long as you dont shoot them in the head with it.

however, the first course of action is to go to animal control and report the problem, then immediately go to the neighbors and tell them that you've called animal control. after that, feel free to tell them that if the problem continues you will defend yourself with any means necessary.

That path has been gone down. They are nonresponsive about it. It's a rural area and the Sheriff has notified them of the complaints on them. The property owners (not the current renters) are threatening them with eviction but are slow to do anything because they fear they won't get new renters in a reasonable amount of time.

Being rural, gunfire of any kind isn't uncommon; nor is it alarming.

Dude - this thing STINGS! I had a friend shoot me in the back twice at about 70 feet and it felt like a NASTY wasp sting - through a denim shirt. We did it because I figured if I was going to shoot at something with it - I should know what it feels like. - BTW: my friend didn't get a 'free shot'..
