Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
Yes, the Italians won in the finest historical traditions of the way they play football. More cheating.
![]() If you see the reverse angle you can see Grosso smiling as he drags his back foot and falls to the ground. The media should make more of this too - I'm getting miffed by them saying "well he was stupid to go to ground" and all these other excuses so as not to be controversial. About time one of them said "he dived and he is a cheat". FIFA's policy of showing a card for any infringement has just put the tournament right into the hands of the cheats.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
They need to start banning guys that dive, after every game watch the footage and suspend them for a game. Or if you go down and you have to be taken off on a stretcher you cant come back into the game. Nothing like seeing guys being taken off then a minute later they are running down around like nothing happened. It totally ruins the game when people cheat and win because of it.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
When Figo doesn't even get a suspension for headbutting a guy I think we can't really trust FIFA about diving. I know I'm biased as England play Portugal next, but I don't see how you can headbutt a guy and get away with it. FIFA are doing all they can to make the game a non-contact sport I feel and it is ruining the game for me.
Ah well, here's hoping a little Brazilian magic tonight resparks the cup! I don't think Ghana have a concept of fear so hopefully it'll be a cracking game.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
Brasil is through. 2-0 Ronaldo is now the top World Cup scorer of all time and Brasil also made it's 200th goal in World Cup history. (I didn't get to see it so I am not sure who got it in.)
I have Japanese class soon so I will be missing most of France vs Spain.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
oh i'm not doubting that acting was involved, and certainly i don't think contact was strong enough to take a man to the ground, but there was contact as far as i could see, and you just can't do that sort of thing.
Lol... just saw Thierry Henry get elbowed in the chest only to clutch his face. Spain 1 - 2 France (7 mins to go)

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
The Figo headbutt should have earned him a one match suspension...disapointed about that ruling.
The diving in general is bad as you guys have all said. In a few of the recent matches ref's have given yellows for diving...that's a good idea in my book. However, something more needs to be done...fining a player that dives probably wouldn't be that big of a deterrent (sp)? because of the money they make...but something must be done. Henry did go down easily..and he should not have clutched his face like he did...but I do think it was a foul...Puyol obstructed him. I'm sure Henry would have gotten to that ball first. Spain just didn't attack very well today....France was very good defensively...especially Sagnol at right back and Makelele in that holding midfield role. I'm going to say this now...and it might make me look like a fool....France will beat Brasil. Chappie.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
It irritates me no end that FIFA consistently refuse to use things like video reffing and goal line technology for contentious fouls and so on. The conclusion to the Aus - Italy game was absolutely heartbreaking.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
I was disappointed with Henry clutching his face like that. It was a foul but I hate to see someone with that much talent pull such a pathetic stunt like that.
3-1 France. I thought it was a pretty good game overall, but anything is good after the Holland v Portugal game. |

My life has lost meaning for the next two days.
Atleast I can get some work done.
