Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
Zidan was excellent today. It's great watching him. He plays "effortlessly" as the English commentator says.
The Brazil France game was fantastic. There didn't seem to be much in the way of play acting which was good to see also. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't see much magic from Ronaldinho but as I said, Zidane did pull of some nice stunts. I'd say the French team deserved to win that match and I would like to see them lift the World Cup this year again. |

^^^^As far as I am concerned Ronaldinho wasn't in this World Cup at all. In this WC he has done nothing to earn the "best player in the world" title.

Likewise for Rooney. After all of the praise, the only thing he accomplished was getting himself red-carded in the stupidest possible way.
I'll be happy if Germany, Portugal, or Italy wins the final. ![]()

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
Rooney was forced to play out of position as a targetman. He's at his best when he drops a bit deeper linking the midfield to an attacker. That position, from where you tend to face the opposition and run at them, is a completely different one to playing with your back to goal. At Manchester Utd he tends to play with either van Horseface or Saha, both of which are tall powerful strikers that are very good at holding up the ball. That's the fundamental difference between a striker and a centre forward.
At least the english fans will get off Hargreaves' back now. I'd love to see if there are any stats on how far he ran during the game.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
hey all,
Wulfyn brought up a great point...Hargreaves was excellent!!! Bayern Munich is one of my top club teams so I've seen him play for them some. He was really fantastic against Portugal..my man of the match for England. I did want to bring up one other point...I think all this talk about Rooney and England's striker/forward situation has overshadowed one other important missing thing..the play of Frank Lampard was very poor..how many chances did he miss in the tournament?? He really struggled all tournament long I thought. I'm very disapointed that England didn't advance..but I'm very glad that Germany and France did!!! Zidane and France deserved to beat Brasil...what a great performance!! I think Germany wins 2-0 over Italy and France beats Portugal 2-1..Germany wins the Cup again!!! 3-1 Final over France. Chappie

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
Lampard had a woeful tournament you are right. I could not believe how many bad misses he had - he just seemed completely lost in many of the games we had. With 15 mins to go I was hoping that Sven would have taken him off and either brought on Downing or Walcott for something else in attack. England didn't need to defend so doggedly, and with Hargreaves playing so well it would have been nice to either see a second strikeer or another winger to ping balls into the box.
Brazil just look totally lost in their game, but I did think the goal was a little dodgy. Plenty of players offside - how could they not be interfering with play? If they weren't there the keeper would have reacted totally differently.

yeah seriously this has to be sorted out... that team was absolutly atrocious, they were falling over at every opotunity... players should recieve a three match ban per diving offense.... sorry but watching full grown men cry because someone nearly touched themis really pissing me off..

^^^^^Portugal and Italy are so annoying with that. That is why I am hoping for Germany vs France.
Also comon if a guy goes out of the game on a strecher and comes back into the game and is running around like nothing happened insta-red card and if what he did lead directly to a goal (PK mainly) disallow that goal.

Wow! What an ending to a semi-final match! I thought the Italian offense was lackluster all night but they realy turned it on at the end.

Germany is home! That was outstanding on Italy's part. Two in the last two minutes.
