The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
Alright I can't take it anymore the world cup starts next week on Friday and I am so excited. (I am not much of a sports person but it is all about soccor over here.)
The 32 qualifying teams are: Angola Argentina Australia Brazil Costa Rica Côte d'Ivoire Croatia Czech Republic Equador England France Germany Ghana Iran Italy Japan Korea Saudi Arabia Mexico Netherlands Paraguay Poland Portugal Serbia and Montenegro Spain Sweden Switzerland Togo Trinidad and Tobago Tunisia Ukraine United States The opening game takes place in Munich and it will be Germany vs Costa Rica. The game starts at 1200 EST June 9th. (1800 local time) The second game will be on the same day at 1500 EST. (2100 local time) The second game is Poland vs Equador My votes for winning the cup this year goes to Germany and Brazil.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
Group A:
1. Germany 2. Poland Group B: 1. England 2. Paraguay Group C: 1. Argentina 2. Netherlands Group D: 1. Portugal (Im not stupid. They will win their group) 2. Mexico Group E: 1. United States 2. Czech Republic Group F: 1. Brazil 2. Croatia Group G: 1. France 2. South Korea Group H: 1. Spain 2. Tunisia (Should be interesting group since 3 of the teams are evenly matched) Im not gonna guess on the knockout rounds since half of that ^ is probably wrong. But the final will be between Brazil and Argentina with Brazil winning it. |

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
England will win it, yeah how many times has one said that.....well over here anyway...
i am loking forward to the world cup... but its still football not soccer... the FA is the football association ![]() i will never count the germans out.... they suck at world wars but they always manage a good game and tend to win... saving grace is they have pretty much sucked these last 2 years now... although with talent such as Michael Balack, you can never rule them out.. the least said about brazil the bettewr we all know their attacking capabilities, and lets face it any team against brazil is an underdog... however, the defensive capabilities of my home team, with both terry and rio in the center and nevile, cole in the wide areas... plus the amazing robison this year between the uprights.... i am excited... saying that, Wayne Roney injured Michael owen, just recovered and has not had much play time... and a coach who is on his way out after the cupp... this ones going to be a good one.. i am hoping the germans go out early.... my heavily bias prediction.... England Brazil final..... ![]()

I'm pretty much on par with you lot, although I think:
Group B: Sweden Paraguay Sorry England. You just don't have the talent. When the big news is whether a 20 year old wil play or not, you are sunk. Group E: I'd love USA to get through, but I'm thinking Czech Republic Italy It all depends on how Totti does. |

It's only soccer.
Please understand that this is an obligatory post which I make to all such discussions.

Crikey! Ireland didn't qualify? That's a new one on me.

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
All of you that dont think the US will advance are insane. We are seeded 9th going into the tournament. Italy is ranked 8th, and the czechs are ranked i think 16. That means we have a very good chance of at least getting second, and Italy is very closely matched with us so we might be able to squeek by with a first in our group.
Or im just hopelessly optimistic. |

He might be 20 years old, but dam he is a excellent player. Voted for pfa young player of year and won, 2005. I personally dont like him (because he plays for Man U) but he is a the one to watch out for. I think ENGLAND have a exceptional chance of winning this world cup, bar no silly mistakes or injuries. We have a mixture of youth, experience, loads of pace, great crossers, fantastic strikers and some of the best defenders. |

Re: The OFFICIAL TG FIFA World Cup 06 Predictions/discussion/hype thread
I'm not up on the teams or players, but I'm somewhat interested in the fact that they're using a radically redesigned ball for this World Cup. Anyone know of any good articles on the science behind this football?
