I can't say as I have ever seen a 2.4L Liberty.. yeah.. that would be like driving a Saturn Vue.. no way.

The Ridgeline is a bad Hombre if you like 'the look' - its got a lot of nice features... might even be just right for Evo after I think about it.. But I wouldn't compare it with a Liberty

Why not?

I checked out both the Liberty and the Ridgeline (among others), I thought the Ridgeline was far better built and had much nicer fit & finish than the Liberty. It also has a larger carrying capacity which was a relatively big factor for me.

It's hard to tell what your motive is though behind the comparison. Either you think the Liberty far outclasses the Ridgeline or vice versa. I've not been a fan of anything that has had the Jeep tag on it for some time though.

It's not the same class.. compact SUV vs. Light truck (thats what Honda wants it to be).. and ~$6000 more for the Ridgeline.. the ridgeline just outclasses it.. its also kind of in a class of it's own.. I dunno.. maybe not.

And FTR I hated all things Jeep until I drove and then bought the Liberty.

I was with you till you said that. Wranglers FTW!!!! So far I have used mine to extract more than one Hummer (H2 of course) and 3 different types of trucks. Never an FJ Cruiser of course because people wisely don't take them off road. And after 5 years mine hasn't needed anything more than 2nd gear syncros. Which isn't much considering that I used it to climb Mosquito pass before it had 1000 miles on it.

We are a two Jeep family and at 200,000 combined miles we love both of our vehicles.

FJ is too new.. not enough of them out there.. but I wouldn't expect them to stay on-road based on what I've heard so far.. they harken back to the old skool Land Cruiser.. and any old skool LC's will put the smackdown on any recent 4x4 (IMHO of course). Affordable too..

Re: Car Crux

The FJ is supposed to be a "real" off-roader. They were showing off some videos at the Detroit Auto Show this year that showed it navigating some serious boulders.

The Ridgeline is very sharp, but unfortunately it's out of our price range.

Yeah - and remeber.. if it is your primary vehicle, and you take trips in it.. make sure you think you can handle the ride.. the Liberty is marginal for long-term comfort - but do-able.. FJ might be the same way, so make sure you can do it. My wife can't ride in the Libery for long though.. so we often take the MDX.. but that is a whole different class.

Re: Car Crux

I won't have a problem with it since my daily driver is a little Mitsubishi that I autocross on the weekends. But my girlfriend might. Regardless, the truck won't be making many long trips, since the Mitsu will remain the commuter car (38mpg goodness).

Yeah, the Wranger is probably the only exception. I just found that Jeep turned most of their vehicles into Soccer-mom vehicles and forgot their roots.

Re: Car Crux

Wasn't going to get involved, but TTAC reviewed the FJ a while back, and it's making me think that's the next ride:

Ummm Yep.. thats what I mean.. they thought seriously about giving it the 'cruiser' title. Geee. I wonder.. is it like all the other foreign cars.. 90%+ made in america?

Ford Mustang is what? 70% Foreign? Ahh well... lines sure are blurry anymore...

Re: Car Crux

I just wanted to thank everyone for the feedback. We ended up going with a very clean 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Power everything, CD player, AC, etc... 129k miles for only $4000. And it runs and drives like a champ. Seems to fit all our needs pretty well.

Re: Car Crux

Okay...since you are talking mid size SUV's...I just purchased a 2006 Kia Sorento. Towiing capacity is 3500 lbs but that's not a problem for me as I only tow a pop up camper and a very small boat.

I was attracted by the excellent safety rating (father of 3) and a 10 year warranty on the drivetrain and a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty on everything.

We got a nicely appointed model for around $22,500
