Re: Cable news coverage of the Israeli war

Maybe that's because the images of civilian casualties are from the bombing of Beirut and the infantry-level fighting is taking place along border in "Bint Jbail, a town that has symbolic importance to Hezbollah as one of the centers of resistance to the 1982-2000 Israeli occupation."

Actually, I think that as long as the news networks are reporting this, they're doing their job. Hezbollah is attempting to fight a propaganda war. That should be documented and reported on as it happens. It seems as though the truth is getting through just fine. I see some similarities between the coverage of Saddam's crumbling regime and Hezbollah - both are attempting to paint unrealistic and false pictures. By documenting this accurately the effect of the propaganda is reversed.

Re: Cable news coverage of the Israeli war

Yeah except in the situation in Iraq, there were ample real-time visuals that showed how their propoganda campaign was exactly that. In this conflict we get all the visuals Hezbollah could ask for, and several days later a blog somewhere and a report online that shows they weren't entirely accurate visuals. Right?

I detect much more sympathetic coverage of Hezbollah's message than Bhagdad Bob received, but maybe that's just me. Is the coverage of the rockets falling into Israel getting equal play, do you think?

I agree with you when it's accurate. But when you look at the broadcasts quoted earlier in this thread, where a reporter waited days to report that he was under the strict control of hezbollah PR people, I think we have an obvious problem that our networks do not always accurately report the restrictions placed on them.

Canadian Soldier Says UN Position Used As Cover By Hezbollah

It'll be interesting to see how much coverage this angle gets.

Re: Cable news coverage of the Israeli war

Congratulations! CNN happened to be covering the war when you turned your TV on. FOX News has tons of coverage on it with reports in the exact same places. Pretty much the same can be said for MSNBC, though they seem to be lacking a little more than CNN or FOX in those areas.

Yeah. But if they were willing to do that when not necessary, you have to wonder what else they have been willing to do.

Not really. Looks like a flub, not malicious alteration.

Huh?

I'm sorry, but when you're in business to provide factual representations of current events, and you provide a false image, what possible reason is there for it to be an honest mistake?

Combining this story with Leejo's story about the mysterious ever-present "rescuer" and I believe that it very well could be "malicious"...

Have you ever worked in a technical field? Maybe the guy sent in the wrong file. Maybe it was a Photoshop test. Who the Hell knows? I'm not defending the guy, or the editor who let such a sloppy manip get past him. But I'm just not seeing a conspiracy here. Unless the photographer wanted the public to believe there was a 10th grade graphic arts error floating over Beirut.

I can't believe that you're so trusting of a photographer after all of these fake photos.
