Re: Rock the Vote

Yeah, because there's nothing liberals like more in the morning than getting up and having an abortion with their morning coffee. There have been several studies that show the abortion rate has little to nothing to do with the political allegiance of the patient. Ask a clinic worker how many "pro-life" women have walked through their doors over the years.

ER... no. Abstinence is all about not having sex. It has nothing to do with marriage.

Re: Rock the Vote

If you think the Republican party, or any supporters of the "Abstinence" meme, either A) Don't want people to get married, or B) Don't want married people to have sex with each other, then you are sadly misinformed.

Many words take on a political meaning entirely different from their dictionary meaning. I can't imagine this phenomenon is unheard of where you live. It's the lifeblood of modern political discourse! Assuming, of course, that you don't mind systematically misleading millions of people (which most politicians are perfectly ok with).

Some words, of course, stray farther from their dictionary meanings than others. "Abstinence (political)" translating to "Abstinence (dictionary) outside of Marriage" is hardly one of the worst offenders.

Re: Rock the Vote

Perhaps we should simply make a distinction between lower-case 'abstinence' (refraining from indulgence) and capitalized 'Abstinence-Only Education' (the relevant educational agenda).

Wow, we hit semantics way early in this thread.

Re: Rock the Vote

I think it's pretty safe to say there will not be a republican president next term. Even if Hillary runs. Regardless of any attempts at spawn camping.

Well, isn't someone a little confidant today? And I'll bet you'll be one of the first ones in court on the following morning to contest the election results if you lose. Excuse me, when you lose.

(my answers, though I'm not in the US, 1. no, 2. no, 3. yes, I flip flop depending on my view of the leader's ability to do good things)
1. No. I am registered independent for a reason.

2. See 1

3. See 1

I do find myself voting democrat most of the time. Not because I agree with their stance but because they are much less organized than the republicans. I think government should be inefficient and internally conflicted.

Otherwise you risk fascism. (Yea I am talking about you pro abstinence (small a) freaks! )

I don't believe it, but the author sure does. My folks were both teachers, heavy into the union and their votes often cancel mine in elections. It's a "take" I hadn't heard before and thought it was worth posting. However, I don't believe that Democrats have received the bang for their buck on the Rock the Vote.

1) No
2) No (although it's heavily Republican)
3) Yes

Re: Rock the Vote

1. No, I couldn't even tell you my parents' political leanings...

2. No, I've voted for the three major parties: Democrat, Republican AND Libertarian.

3. Yes, the Libertarian Party's stance on illegal immigration frustrates me to no end...

Re: Rock the Vote

Heh... my little quiz is flawed because it is unlikely that anyone will honestly answer yes, yes, no, given the surrounding conversation. More likely, they just won't answer. Nothing to see here, carry on.

I am a Republican and usually am proud of it. The Schiavo case was horrible. However, I am not confident and never am. Especially in the bedroom....er.....nevermind....anyways....uh...oh yeah, you come off as cocky and with a holier than thou underpinning. I'd recommend toning it down a bit even if the Florida Dems can't count.
