How would it kill the car?

I don't even remember the name of the group, though. It had the word grotesque in it. alt.binaries.pictures.grotesque?
I used to go to rotten.com, but it looks like they aren't updating. Can't be from lack of material.

Re: Next time you get pulled over for speeding,

The mustang's manuver is technically called a "Texas Turnaround" And he could have left the car Drive and/or neutral the entire time. A car can go in reverse with the transmission in drive. I can do this manuver with my old Crown Victoria in my pasture. Not going as fast, but it is rather easy.

I have no real idea, as I'm not automotive inclined. But every show that I've watched where they talked about the PIT maneuver, they made a point of saying it actually disabled the car. They made it sound like the spin forced the engine off or broke something mechanical (maybe an axle?), somehow.

If it didn't disable the car in some way, couldn't the car just start going in the direction it faced? Provided it didn't slam into something and get trapped, that is. Most of the videos that I've seen, the cars simply spun out and weren't trapped immediately or such, but weren't able to get going again.

I always thought it was because the drivers were unskilled and/or shaken up so bad that they just didn't do anything else...

And I would think that the tires would be the weak spot in an intentional spin out like this? Maybe an automatic transmission? I dunno. I've spun out (unintentionally) like the Mustang in this video once, and just kept on driving after recovering control.

Re: Next time you get pulled over for speeding,

Where he was going backwards was just a J turn, but he didn't quite pull it off right and ended up going across the median (or maybe that was his plan?) I saw some stunt driver on Speedvision doing them in a stock Toyota Camry a few years ago (same guy that you've probably seen spinning a car to parallel park it perfectly).

And the 360's were some skill in vehicle control combined with pure luck in not hitting the walls. Probably hit the clutch pedal, waited to get facing the right way, and then gunned it.
