Re: 911 Every damn day.
Interesting thread and I am pleased it has stayed (relatively) on topic.
I have a philosophy in life. When I have an issue with a person I take it up with that person. So many times I have seen people try to take a less direct route and go to someone else (you prof's superiors for example). This usually pisses off the person (see prof) because #1. They would like to have been told personally and #2. They hate for their superiors to have be involved. Now, before you go off on not getting superiors involved lets look at two things. Freeky stated he thinks the guys is just socially inept. If this is indeed the case then just talk to him and try to make him socially "ept". If there was malice involved I really wouldn't have an issue going to his superiors about it. That being said...I think it would be wise to tape a week of classes and then talk to him. That way you at least have a record of events. I see nothing wrong with one man talking to another man about about an issue like this. The dude may abide but a man would take the high road. Before 9/11 I flew my flag on my house. After 9/11 I put it on a 20 foot flagpole in my front yard with a light for night flying. I haven't forgotten (I never will) yet, I don't spew venom and try to "remind people" of it. The week of the attack I told my wife that every house on the street would have a flag by the end of the week...I was correct. I also told her that within 6 months they would all be gone...I was correct. OKC is not in our recent memory and the media has not decided to bring it to us adnaseum like they have recently with the 5th anniversary of 9/11. Must not be enough money in it. OKC didn't result in wars on foreign soil like 9/11 did. There are definite differences to the two attacks but the result in loss of innocent lives was equally devastating. Many people equate 9/11 with Pearl Harbor because both were unprovoked ("surprise") attacks (conspiracy theories not withstanding). 50 years and a lot of politics separate the two.

Re: 911 Every damn day.
Buck Fush said, "I did throw that term around rather loosely. That was very short sighted."
Hey, in a good discussion, everyone learns something. even if it is just the opinion of others. I wouldnt say shortsighted...just what you felt. Pickle said "Before 9/11 I flew my flag on my house. I also told her that within 6 months they would all be gone...I was correct." I see this fad fading as well. I remember every car in my town having one of the magnetic ribbons on it and thinking.....magnetic? how obvious can the fad be when you can just peel t off whenever you want? which also led me to wonder who was making the money off all those flags and magnetic ribbons. the other wierd thing is i see the same people screaming for vengeance and justice disrespecting the flag by leaving it outside all the time rain or snow with no light on it ....letting it rip in the wind and forget about it.........its still a flag but its a flag showing that "this" family has forgotten. Cing said "But Islamic terrorism hasn't stopped. We haven't caught Osama. And the "war on terror" has been muddled by the controversial Iraq war. True, and good point....but there are always doubts and questions...i have the right to question my leaders decisions so i use it all the time....Like this, i wonder if we could have found osama by now if we hadnt been spending billions of dollars in iraq? I wonder if osama is chilling with his family in saudi arabia? I wonder why bush considered iraq to be the worst country in terms of human rights instead of iran or saudi arabia or pakistan or hell, israel. |

Re: 911 Every damn day.
The short answer is: Because it was militarily and politically weakest.

Re: 911 Every damn day.
Or...
Just tell him what you think. Tell him you don't like his actions and he should keep his beliefs to himself. It may piss him off but who the hell cares? I had the oppiste problem. I had an english teacher that was so anti gun that I had to challenge her. We got in some knock down drag outs in class. You have to stand up for what you believe. Tell the dork to cool it. Challenge him/her. You might be supprised and they will respect you for it. College professors often respect a challenge.

Re: 911 Every damn day.
Time to lock this thread I think. The main topic was pretty much wrapped up and now OKC and Iraq are infiltrating and dominating it. Lets start a new thread for that mkay?

Re: 911 Every damn day.
Lock the thread if you want, but i kind of take offense at the suggestion.
This has allowed me to discuss very personal feelings with intellegent people and (hopefully) hear real reactions to those feelings. A few of my ideas have changed. (the result of any good discussion) And the fact that OKC and Iraq were brought up WERE pertinent to the discussion (in my opinion). Not to mention....Except you, no one has posted in 5 days. Yes, this thread is being dominated!! I demand it be shut down! [sarcasm] |
