Driving through an ambush in Iraq

There's a little bit of strong language, but should be safe for work.

Can you imagine going through stuff like this on a regular basis as a civilian contractor?

Does anyone know what those were that went off? I thought it was planted explosives, but the road looked very clear where the second one went off.

Re: Driving through an ambush in Iraq

Those were some pathetically weak mortars. From what I can see, there was almost no damage to the concrete. Looked more like a smoke-bomb really.

Re: Driving through an ambush in Iraq

could possibly have been hand grenades, they are quite common, and the blast radius and damage to the vehicle would be minimal if they were.

i think some kind of satche charge is more devistating and as you say a mortar would have torn up the road a bit...

good driving though under fire he maintained the coverage of the black van and protected its flank at all costs.

Wow. Those guys did one HELL of a job, as was posted earlier, the protected the flank at all cost. this goes to show that these men did their jobs and did them well, the first thing they did was cover the escorted vehicle. I feel safer at night knowing that there are men like this out in the streets all over the world helping to insure that freedom not only survives but thrives.

Well, toothpaste, soap and deodarant aren't really banned substances in France, and Leejo was making a sarcastic reference to the EVIL Haliburton (and its ilk) that are making so much money from US Gov't contracts to help rebuild Iraq.
