Re: The (latest) long boring speech that got Islam all a-tizzy
Quote from Bom:
"In Islam, a martyr is defined as someone who dies fighting a holy war and suicide is likewise condemned in Islam. This is where I find it so interesting when extremists are bundled with the rest of the followers of Islam. It's important to realise that extremists do not represent the Islamic norm, but rather an aberration of traditional Islamic belief." Now that is what I am talking about!! Good post. It is wild that in the fall of 2001 we spoke of the war on terrism as being focused on Alquadia. Now in the late summer of 2006 the war on terror is now being focused on Islamic fascist. We jumped from having an enemy of thousands who were in a set in a geographical location (Afghanistan) with known leaders; to now an enemy of millions located all over the world and has no set geo location (however, concentrated in the middle east) guys, Winston Smith from 1984 called, the message, "Wake up!!!!! We're totally being hosed!!" A war on Islamic Fascist is so ambiguous it is rediculus. In order for us to better prevent young Muslims from going to the Dark Side we must show them that the war on terror invovles the following: KKK Neo Natzi's Black Panther ELF Alquadha Al-jezzer etc... etc... Not just Muslims. IMO: When we use such language as Islamic Fasciats: WE ARE CURRENTLY MAKING MORE TERRORISTST THAN WE ARE DESTROYING or NEUTRILAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, your source at the "Iraq Body Count" doesn't mention these 20 deaths at all. I agree with this assertion (as I've also mentioned before exhaustively), however, the subset of the Islamic world which resorts to violence quickly and often is a much larger subset than in any other religion currently. Would you at least agree with that? |

Re: The (latest) long boring speech that got Islam all a-tizzy
Anyway, we're throwing around lots of different words for pre-judice, while what we should be talking about is post-judice.
Specifically, the response to the Pope's speech. Lets throw some news links out there: News Story Its not front page headlines in the US anymore, because we're focused on the President's UN speech now. But its still playing out over in Europe.

Re: The (latest) long boring speech that got Islam all a-tizzy
If the moderate message isn't getting across that these killers aren't representative of what we can expect from Islam for the next several decades, then I suggest the mullahs try Bender's great advice: LOUDER AND SADDER. But don't blame the audience if the message doesn't come across, because it's not the audience's problem to solve.
In my opinion, Islamic terrorism is an Islamic problem. It is ultimately up to Islam to solve this problem. If anyone throws a tizzy, it is their tizzy to handle. But they're not handling it. So I'm frustrated. Of course I understand that most Muslims are excellent people. But this doesn't mean that I can't express my frustration that today, in mosques across Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, and Iran, and Iraq, and Syria, and Jordan, and Palestine, and Egypt, and Indonesia, and the United States, and Mexico, and Canada, and England, and Germany, and France, and Spain, and Morocco, and Ethiopia, and Somalia, and Bangladesh, and India, and the Ivory Coast, and the Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates, and Australia, and the Philippines, and Chechnya, and Afghanistan, and Turkey, and so on community leaders are preaching hate, death to Americans, death to Jews, and war. They are many. They are well-funded. Where do they come from? Who sends them money? Jews? Christians? So yeah, they aren't all of Islam, but they aren't all that lonely either. Maybe it's getting time for the moderates to find a better way to distinguish themselves from the radical. |

Re: The (latest) long boring speech that got Islam all a-tizzy
"I have two undesirable people who want to go to Italy to see the pope and give him a message"
They landed in Brindisi but they requested Rome. If they landed in Rome they would effectively be showing the Vatican that they can be targeted. I suppose that's the message they wanted to send. Edit: Looks like this is wrong. Here's an update: Earlier reports on Tuesday that the hijackers were protesting Pope Benedict XVI's planned visit to Turkey were apparently incorrect; authorities now say that the hijackers have requested political asylum. Turkish officials said one of the hijackers, identified as Hasan Ekinci, wrote a letter to the pope in August asking for help in avoiding service in the Turkish army. "I am a Christian and don't want to serve a Muslim army," he wrote, adding that he had been attending church since 1998. |
