My take is the movie is two dimensional. About 1/2 of the footage is war drama and 1/2 is based in the states. Eastwood does a masterful job of tying the two together so that for the most part it feels seamless...that the drama at home segueways to the drama on the battlefield in a natural and logical way. I'd definitely classify it as a war movie.

So If I loved Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby, two excellent films directed by Eastwood, would I also enjoy Flags of our Fathers?
