It's official, EA eats yet another company

http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/10/02/ea_acquires_dice/

One more step on the spiral down towards monopoly. And evil. Eeeeeeeeeeeevil.

Heh EA already owned DICE in every sense but official anyway as far as i'm concerned. As long as i don't see a Ubi/EA merger i'll feel moderately secure.

Oh BTW i'm sure there's some sort of masonic conspiracy behind EA's rise to power

Re: It's official, EA eats yet another company

I'd have to say that the gaming industry is pretty far from experiencing a state of monopoly. The primary difference between entertainment and business is that with entertainment, we at least have more of a choice.

If I have an objection to Fox Studios, it's no great loss for me to not see any of their movies. Likewise, if I have that much of an objection to EA, I don't think it's going to hurt me to not play their games. I am not at that stage with either company, but I could happily boycott either of them if I felt so inclined. For example, unless Ubisoft do something drastically amazing to mitigate my horrible experience with the terminally crippled GRAW, then I intend to make that very choice with every half-assed game they release in the near future. There is nothing tying me to them at this stage. Monopolies in commodities or computer hardware for example are of a greater magnitude simply for the fact that there are very few players in the market. That's not to say gaming will not progress that way, but it's a way off yet.

What's with all of the big-name mergers/aquires this past year? It's only EA/DICE, and as Bom said, we have lots of choices in games.

And they promptly closed DICE Canada. Aside from BFV and BF2:SF, it's where the BF2 patching was being done.

Guess that's likely to be the end of BF2 support. That's one way to force people to buy your new game. Or just stop playing the series, that works too. :P

Gah. First ATI, now DICE Canada. Can't you guys leave us with something to take pride in?
But on a more serious note, this sucks. But like Penguin said, it was all but official in my eyes.

The only good game EA makes is madden and bf2. The rest are highly marketed pieces of trash! :P

Just so you have a bit more confidence in developers, check out the complete list.
