Re: Racism Sinks to New Lows

Well I think that's a dangerous question. The short answer is "she was trying to get a meal." If the implication is that no sane black person would go to Cracker Barrel, or that she must have been asking for a fight...well then she certainly has a point.

I think it's important to remember that we know very little about this situation right now. I'm suspicious, it seems unreasonable, and Al Sharpton's involvement is unpleasant and reinforces the sense that this whole affair is opportunistic. However, it's possible that Ms. Rock and her daughter waited 30 minutes while the same waitress sat, waited on, and served several tables after they arrived, all of whom were white. If that happened, then she may have a point.

I still think the manager's offer seemed reasonable and should have been considered before filing suit, and ultimated the company isn't responsible for an individual's behavior, it's responsible for enforcing its policy. If they had a bad waitress behaving in a racist manner, then they should terminate that waitress's employment and make good with the affected customers or coworkers. I doubt there's a policy that tolerates a manger publicly berating an employee.

Jeeze 'nuff said on this topic. Let's see what Chris Rock has to say.

And did you read where Al Sharpton has been getting calls all over the US from people expreincing the same thing. Classic
Everyone here should call him and tell him about our experiences. (Just leave out the part about not being black.) LOL

Re: Racism Sinks to New Lows

I guess I'm lucky. There's a Cracker Barrel just off the freeway near my town. I've been there 3 times and have had excellent service every time, but one time it was crowded and there was about a thirty minute wait. Their country fried steak is nothing to write home about, but their hash brown casserole is absolutely delicious!

Now, there's this restaurant called the Kerbey Lane Cafe, in Austin, TX, however, that needs to be taken to task...

I believe it was just an off color attempt at humor.

Re: Racism Sinks to New Lows

I have told about 20 people about this and they all give the same responce "30 minutes at that place is fast"

I kind of want to hear the story from the waitress' point of view, i mean was she on break and dint get the message. Have had that happen and got a free meal out of it. Or was it an actual case of well you are black and i dont want to serve you. Another thing to think about is where there any other blacks seated and eating, if there was that would kind of blow apart the lawsuit.

Re: Racism Sinks to New Lows

The last bachelor party I attended was still going strong at 10am the next morning, but we had run out of...everything. 10 extremely intoxicated men and 8 women of questionable moral character that we had aquired through the evening all poured in to a local cracker barrel...on a Sunday morning, as it filled up with families returning from church.

Our wait was only 10 minutes, but I got them to make us the next people to be seated after I promised them I'd make most of our party wait outside.

Our group appeared to be multi-cultural (some of them even looked ethnic!) but all opted to check "other" on the survey provided.

Stripper's and Breakfast...the American Dream. I had a similiar situation myself. But it involved Waffle House and some midgets...wait a minute...it's nothing like it. Forget what I said.

After getting off the mid shift a bunch of us would go to "Legs and Eggs". A local strip club had breakfast! And it wasn't to bad, either.

But at that hour the food was definatly more appealing than the strippers.
