Nope, its apparently completely legitimate. Here's a link to a news blog on it out of California.

It would be nice if the page had a little more background on it, but I remember this project being advertised months ago. We even had a thread on it in the Sandbox, I think.

What sort of spyware is it and what does it do? Or are you just accusing it of being spyware because it asks to install something? (Very possibly a real-time streaming codec)
