I recently came across this Ben Franklin quote and was struck by the eloquence of it in describing the (sometimes frustrating) circuitousness of human reasoning.

Context: he wrote it while pondering his own vegetarianism. He was on a sea voyage, and finally resigned himself to eating fish after reasoning that since the fish he ate had smaller fish in their bellies, who was he not to deny his place on the food chain?

This is so true and I have experienced the same conundrum as Ben did.

See, I am a Beer-etarian. But all that was around in the house was some rum. I reasoned that I could drink it because I wanted to be drunk.
