Re: The New Global Warming Thread
Actually to be a bit more serious there is a classic mistake a lot of environmentalists make when moaning about cutting down trees. The use of lumbar in construction or for furniture is good for reducing carbon from the atmosphere because they are treated, sealed and generally lasts for a very long time. This removes the carbon in circulation by putting it into a form that will not return to the environment (when the tree dies) unless of course you burn it.
What you need to ensure is that the trees are replaced in order that the carbon continues to be drawn from the atmosphere. My vision is to use hydroponics to industrialise this process, in order to substantially remove the carbon dioxide in the air. Then when I figure out a way to reduce the concentraion of nitrogen I will one day be able to light a match and blow up the world.
Ok, so i couldn't stay so serious for that long...

Re: The New Global Warming Thread
This is called sustainable forestry, something still unknown in many parts of the world. If you change the landscape too drastically, trees will not grow there again.
Sustainability in general is something that humans have not yet fully come to grasp, though we are making progress.

Re: The New Global Warming Thread
Y'know, when I head home from work, I sometimes listen to the Art Bell show. I normally dismiss the kooks and freaks as having entertainment value, but not much more. Then I heard about this guy. If anyone would know about UFOs, wouldn't it be the head of a defense department for a large nation? Granted, he's getting up there in years and the mind tends to suffer with age, but can we afford to dismiss his claims? Is he just another kook?

It's just a lot sexier to believe that we can cure Global Warming with Alien technology then it is that the sun could be behind global warming.

I know, I would rather see Botswana included in the next release of POE then Canada. Lot more exciting with the Elephants than the Mounties!

Re: The New Global Warming Thread
Seems I got some neg rep for my Canada crack. Apparently the Canadistas are on the warpath again. If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times, beware the great bear of the north. Those canucks are godless environmentally-conscious killing machines. But it just so happens that we have the most carbon emissions of any nation in this hemisphere, and there's not a maple leaf they can do about it. So unless you're prepared to get a face full of international cigar smoke, you'd better allow us Americans to mock your hilariously slightly-different-from-us country in peace.

Re: The New Global Warming Thread
Sorry if this was posted previously. The UKs channel 4 recently presented this show debunking the mainstream global warming shtick. It's well worth an hour of your time to hear some legitimate counter-arguments.

Just finished watching - thanks for the link Squid.
Very well done documentary. I don't know how you can argue against the logic, but people will. I especially liked the simple, concise Al Gore rebuttal... nice! The fact that An Inconvenient Truth gets an IMDB.com rating of 8.3 out of 10 is just scary.Beware of Flying Dogs....
