Re: Death Row Convict donates last meal to the Homeless

The rules say (as far as I understand them) that the condemned gets a final meal. Doing anything out side would be breaking the rules. That alone should be enough, of course. But I do see a bit of a slippery slope, yes. If these type of things where to happen often then society might begin seeing these monsters as human beings. Then it might start looking into who is on death row and who isn't. Then it might start questioning the death penalty.

What was he thinking?! Hasn't he seen the recent South Park about the homeless? You give a hobo anything, and then they'll be coming in droves and won't leave! Then they'll all harass you for change. Now the homeless will never leave the jails!

Heh... In Dallas, whenever the weather gets uncomfortable, the bums will cause a ruckus somewhere just so they will be arrested and can spend some time in jail.

That's pretty smart. No excuse to be homeless and in the cold, when there are good 'ol jails that will shelter you, clothe you, and feed you for free! As long as you don't mind a little bubba lovin'.

what makes sense to me is this. if this guy decides that he wants to send his meal to the homeless/hungry, and the state is undecided upon whether or not they want to honor that wish, then the man about to be executed should have a choice. 1) forfeit your last meal in hopes that the state will honor his wish, even if it means they have to 'think about it' or 2) say nevermind about the homeless/hungry, give me a steak. either way, the guy should be executed on time and without delay. being able to postpone execution because you cant decide what you want to eat is straight up nonsense. |

Re: Death Row Convict donates last meal to the Homeless
while i think his request was self serving maybe he is innocent and feels that his last meal may help someone else? alot of ppl have been cleared recently of charges because of dna evidence. others have been wrongfully imprisoned due to bad defense attorneys, confessions due to repeated questioning with out an attorney, the lack of reliability in eye witness testimony, etc.
i'm not saying he's guilty or not or that he was altruistic or self-serving just putting out a different pov i think the state is right to say no since rules should be enforced as much to the letter as possible imo to make it easier and fairer for the ppl the rules affect i also agree with the idiocy of the ppl who took up a collection for the pizza ... if they really cared for the homeless they would donate their time and money to helping them get back on their feet - not that i do anything to help the homeless but i try to give what little i can afford when i see someone collecting money for a worthy cause rather than wait for some death row inmate to remind me of the cause |

Re: Death Row Convict donates last meal to the Homeless
Working on a college campus, I see a lot of people (yes most of them young and idealistic) that get caught up in ill-conceived causes. Does that make them gullible or me jaded?
