Update your talking points. The "fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here" line is disproven, stale, and foolish.
And cowardly, unless you're actually 'there' and not 'here'.

Re: You call this intelligence?

I'm pretty sure we used to have an embassy over in Iran, I seem to remember them doing something to close our embassy down, hrmm, what was it??

Oh, that's right. They attacked our embassy and took everyone inside prisoner. Since the government over there has changed little in their political outlook in the close to 30 years since that occurred, why again would we want to re-establish the embassy?

Re: You call this intelligence?

Why establish an embassy on foreign soil, anyway, when there's the UN and plenty of fancy communication gear to talk directly with their capitol? Seems like the only value of an embassy is to have a place to appoint an ambassador who contributed to your campaign, or to throw fancy cocktail and dinner parties.

How do you know I haven't been over "there"?

The fact is that this country needs all types of people to keep it running. Warriors are only one type. I won't go so far as to say that we need politicians, but we definitely need leadership in our government. If everyone was 'over there', then who would be over here?

This is the same lack of logic that is employed when people were calling President Clinton a draft dodger. The fact is that the United States needs a certain amount of smart, educated people to stay here while the troops (not necessarily any less smart or educated) fight our battles for us.

We need to redefine "politician" to something we need, then hire those people.

Re: You call this intelligence?

There are those who want a meddling activist government, and those of us who want one that leaves us alone and protects us from those who want to meddle. That conflict is going to make it hard to define a "politician we need", when "we" are not so alike.
