I choose two options, I own and love to shoot and I don't own but love to shot, there wasn't an option for past ownership.

Re: Anonymous: Do you own, or have you ever shot a gun?

If your going to shoot might as well have some fun at it. Punching paper down a lane at the range is boring.

http://www.ipsc.org/ (very sporty)
http://www.idpa.com/ (more practical)
http://www.icore.org/ (a bit of both)
http://www.sassnet.com/ (FUN as all hell)

http://www.uspsa.org/ (A good place to start)

I had the pleasure of going to college a few miles from this range(s)

I have have only been "shooting" a couple of times.

Most often I go hunting. I don't get much enjoyment out of just shooting at inanimate things.

Now hunting, especially small game such as quail and rabbit, is what I call fun.

I have a Kimber .45 ACP and I'm actually going shooting this week for the first time in months. We go to an outdoor range where we can shoot .223 as well.

Re: Anonymous: Do you own, or have you ever shot a gun?

Have an old Daewoo DP51 9mm that my father got when he left the military for self defense. It was fired probably 50 times total and he never cleaned it because he has ADD when it comes to his toys.

After beating him hands down in a competition we had with BB guns he wanted to go shooting again so I broke down his pistol and cleaned it for him after reading the instructions.

Now I just need to find cheap 9mm round of decent quality for range shooting since we've already expended the 500 rounds he had sitting in the closet for the past 10 years. -.-

Before that the only things I've fired were a de-decommisioned M1A1 Garrand Rifle and an M16 at the army base for NJROTC. The M1A1 we de-decommisioned with our armory officer so the Drill team could fire off a few clips to get a better respect for our drill weapons and the M16 in a marksmanship contest that was vastly unfair since a majority of the shooters only fired a BB rifle. I believe several people were pull off the line because, and I quote, "You're so bad if you were aiming at a target down range you'd hit a guy sitting down 400 yards to the left just on principle".

Yeah, it's really freaking fun to head down to a Smith & Wesson range and fire their Model 500 (really expensive, and the range near me doesn't offer that anymore, nor any other revolvers, but it was worth the hole in my wallet). I'll be getting my LTC as soon as I'm allowed to.

Re: Anonymous: Do you own, or have you ever shot a gun?

It depends on the state. In Massachusetts, you have to be 18 to get your Federal ID and purchase rifles and related equipment; you have to be 21 to get your License to Carry and purchase sidearms and related equipment. Also, different towns have different policies concerning the class of the license, determining how you're allowed to transport and store the weapon.

Re: Anonymous: Do you own, or have you ever shot a gun?

To purchase a handgun in the state of California you need:

To prove residence in the county of purchase. A utility bill or rental agreement will do it.
A driver’s license. Or military ID with proof of assignment to California station.
Must be 21 to purchase a handgun and 18 to purchase a rifle.

You also need a handgun safety permit. An Easy 25 questions about what end of the barrel the bullet comes out of and other really dumb questions. This is another $25 to the state and $25 for the dealer and can be had at the point of sale. Cards are good for 7 years I think.

Fill out a bunch of paper work and pass the background check. This is a combo of state and federal.
Pay the bill. Wait 10 days. Carry it home.
The end.

thats weird.21 for a handgun,18 for a rifle. So is it that handguns are so popular?i bet because they are so easily to conceal and transport?

Yes, Para, it's because handguns are more easily concealed and used in crime.

Every state has different laws and there really is no logic to many of them, nor a common thread of reason. If I where to explain it would take so long the laws would have changed, again!

Remember that gun ownership is a right in the US but many states try to limit ownership in some way or another.

Own a USP45, M1 Garand, and AR-15 (Stag Model 1). I wanted to pick up an M1 carbine from CMP, but college is stealing all of my money. I usually only get to shoot a couple times a year.
