I am saying you should check them if they are actually suspicious. If they just look different you leave them alone. Wearing unusual jewelry is just as un-suspicious as having an unusual skin color or pants.

So, if you see loose wiring, putty, and a battery with trailing wires, assume it's unusual jewelry or check it out? What would it take to make an improvised device suspicious to you, at an airport, where your job is specifically to be looking for things like home-made bombs?
