Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
after chatting to viper when i saw barnacle and grunt played this aswell, i decided to get this one aswell since it was only 9.99 on steam...
installing as we speak.
Am abit of a flight sim noob, as my main flying experience comes from games like the battlefield series, soldner and arma1 and 2 , i've dabbled in arcady flying games like HAWX and space games, but i don't think that will be particularly usefull here
Hope you guys can show me the ropes and are patient with me but coop flight missions + TG TS sure do sound tasty! even if it is only with propeller planes !

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
muhaha, been flying abit today...
after looking at the take-off/landing, and ground attack videos i decided to jump right in with the first mission flying for the ruskies
resulting in this
hah, still managed to bring down a fleeing bogey in that state though.
Limping my way home i noticed i was missing a wheel...
i saw about dumping your ordanence before attempting to land, but flying on easy meant i had an endless string of bombs... resulting in a very firey landing lol
second flight went abit better and i actually down down some ground targerts and 5 orso enemy planes! But then i lost my orientation trying to navigate back using the map and crash in the countryside
Do i still need to take the updates like described in this topic or have this changed?
I bet this game rocks in coop

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
It's always great to see more interest! Sadly, we haven't had any games the past couple of weeks. Sturgis, I recommend that (in addition to the other stuff in this thread) you download the new 4.09(full not beta) update that came out recently. I believe there's a thread about it here somewhere. I also recommend that you download hyperlobby ( http://hyperfighter.sk/). It's basically a way to find online servers and host coop missions.

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
hmm, just relaunched the game to check, but i can't seem to find a build version anywhere..
As said i downloaded it from steam, doesn't that automaticly include all the patches?
edit: so to be clear, i need
- unified installer at allaircraftarcade.com
- AAA mod?
- hyperlobby

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
oh ok, thx for that!
I looked at the install notes and it says:
2. If you have IL-2 installed, Copy your current IL-2 1946 game folder and rename the new folder. Next, Delete the FILES and MODS folders. The new install will copy 4.08 files allowing any Direct 2 Drive user to be compatible with the mod.
3. If you have the unified installer 1.0, move the folder named FILES and MODS folder from your modded game to another location for safe keeping.
However i can't seem to find where steam installed the game files...?

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
Peculiar. Haven't made the jump to Steam so I have no idea where it hides the files.
At best, maybe a whole computer search for il2fb.exe?
In other news, no Thursday flying for me: FAA symposium Thursday evening.

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
Hmm, after some further searching and looking at google i found the files, odd as i swore i picked the entire steamfolder apart last night...
anyways, started downloading the AAA, but at 60kb/sec per piece, this is gonna take a while lol
Maybe we should pick another night then thursdays? to get this going again?

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
ok nearly got the thing downloaded...
but:
If you have IL-2 installed, Copy your current IL-2 1946 game folder and rename the new folder. Next, Delete the FILES and MODS folders. The new install will copy 4.08 files allowing any Direct 2 Drive user to be compatible with the mod.
problems is i see no folders called files or mods in my install?
edit: according to the steam readme im running 4.08

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
I don't either. Furthermore, I don't recall if those are folders added by the AAA mod - we'll have to get one of the gents with AAA installed to confirm for us. I do have a "files.sfs" in my main IL2 folder but I don't think that that is what they are after.
OK, checking on the laptop, my ded server folder does have a MODS folder so I think it's something that the AAA mod adds in. If you are still running 4.08 w/o mods, you should be able to install the 4.09 patch and skins exe and be good to go.

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
well, i pointed the AAA to the folder where my IL2 resides, and seems that everything installed ok...
It is hugely annoying that my careermenu is in cyrillic, as that only leaves single mission to be explored.
I succesfully landed a mig3 the other night, though i did clip a plane parked next to the runway after touching down and lost a bit of wing in the process
other attempts lead to me snapping of me wheels before even touching the ground lol and snapping through them on several ocassion with touching down...
And that's even on easy lol...

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
No flying for me tonight, I'm afraid - at home, for once, no ground school/FAA seminars/etc but a 0430 start tomorrow.

Re: IL2:1946 starting anew,
I still plan to come back to this game. As soon as I get the new interweb from my provider here. I've tried to find a dvd but it is not even possible to order it in my country atm.
