I completely agree with you Dude - Ubi suck and lock on is woefully incomplete for release. Yes the graphics are intensive and perhaps a little lofty for current machines (Sarc was telling me yesterday that he had 5 FPS when he went above the cloud layer - ouch!).
Saying that though without the clouds I get decent frame rates that make it playable and it does play really well - I've yet to try it with. From what we have played so far the game seems to run fine. There are some bugs that we know about and some we don't but the developers are working to fix them.
When you say campaign over net do you mean Coop or actual campaigns? There's no DSS yet for either but we have fun hosting the games ourselves for coop.
Unfortunately it looks as though we'll be hosting coop for some time yet.
Thanks,
J.Jex.

I'm going to turn down my graphics before trying to fly above clouds again.
IL2 was developed by Maddox Games and published by Ubisoft. If you want an Ubi developed game, check out RvS. :P
I'm really miffed that these two flight sims don't have good dedicated server support. How could they not add in co-op for the IL2 dedicated server? I actually like Lock On better because when you join a hosted server, you don't have to wait until the mission is over like IL2. You can even hop in and start flying after mission start! But I guess they totally forgot about those that want to play on a dedicated server after flying the few missions included for the six planes.

Other than the 3rd party developed dynamic campaign generator, there is very little in the way of options to host any sort of co-op multiplayer. I know..I've been looking.
However the Battle over Europe expansion pack does have integrated dynamic campain generation. If it is supported in dedicated server mode is another question.

Well I must say I dont like what Im hearing about the frame rates. I have a Nvida 64MB with 512 Mb of SDRam with 1.6GHZ not good for me from what Dude man is saying. I just got my computer mag and a DEMO for LOCKON I will install it and see whats up .. later

Actually one of the reasons I got into this game was the astonishingly large and developed community playing this game.
If TG were to form an Air Squadron and advertise the server in the community, I trust you'd have a full room and forums. Many are already paying for Hyper Lobby servers.

Actually good frame rates can be had by most of the current machines mentioned in this forum. Primarily you need to adjust the water and cloud settings. The game processes water graphics, even if you don't have any water visible (don't ask me why..sigh).., but if you throttle back the water settings, you should see improved frame rates. In almost all sims clouds are a frame rate killer. Reduce the amount and complexity of your cloud settings and you will see another jump in frames. Hope this helps guys.... Chek6.... Fanatik

Total, to answer your question, I believe that I read somewhere that the Battle of Britain expansion is slated to come out sometime in 2005, so we've got a bit of a wait ahead of us.
IL-2 FB comes with 8 default co-op missions, but there is a huge number of co-op missions out there that were created by IL-2 fans, but admittedly some are of better quality than others. I'm not certain if there would be legal issues regarding TG grabbing some of these missions an putting them on our server, since this is a pay server...
My thinking is that we can organise ourselves into co-op missions on the dog-fight map(s) that are on the server now. One side can be given an objective, ie. bomb airfield, and the other has to stop the first group, etc. With 6 or 8 people, this is very doable, and we can set out own parameters in terms of objectives, types of planes etc. etc.

Not the Battle of Britian game.....Battle over Europe is a 3rd party expansion Pack coming out for IL2FB the end of this month.

So what's the news with IL2? Are we getting closer to having coop at TG?

We're probably still waiting for word from that DCG creator.
