Hee hee, on a side note, lately I've been looking at my Falcon 4.0 CD sitting on my shelf--I've become very tempted to reinstall it and fly again--I was one of those people that got tired of d/l-ing patch after patch after patch, and ended up simply unistalling it. I may have to revisit this game over the weekend . Like Logical said, having your plane mirrored and shimmering on a body of water is nice, but I'd rather have realistic radar, flight performance, etc. That said, however, Lock-On is coming along, and I'm sure it'll be much, much better in the near future. What most of us are saying, is that we'd have liked to have seen the developers spend more time on the "nuts and bolts", rather than esthetics.

Hmmmmm... not to be disagreeable Logical, but after taking a closer look at that fixes in 1.08 listed above, the vast majority are gameplay issues, not really hardware related.... sure some are hardware related, but the problems shown here are not that much different from the types we are experiencing now with LOMAC... When I beta tested the F4 patches, we were looking for areas that needed addressing in the campaign and similar areas.... hardware problems were pretty much ironed out in the earlier patches.... the one big stinker that never really got fixed was the multiplayer connection issues... but back then most internet games sucked when it came to multiplayer.... hell, we still have lag in most of the games we play today, and most everyone has broadband now... most everyone had dialup back then, and broadband was very rare.. oh well, I guess the debate goes on!!

Fight sims have always pushed the hardware and software limits. Long bug fix lists are norm when it comes to flight sims.

Janes F/A-18 while pretty stable out of the box, gave horrible frame rates, my P500 at the time was lucky if it pushed 20fps. The same can be said for the Longbow series, EF-2000, and nearly every single sim that's been made. People were complaining about poor frame rates when Il-2 came out, and IL-2 has had a number of patches fixing some major issues, and it still has some major issues to this date. CFS3 was horrible out of the box, and only after major protesting did MS issue a patch, and forget about their flight simulator line. The only patch they release is the next version.

LockOn while not perfect is supported but a very proven group at Eagle Dynamics, forget about Ubi, Eagle will support the game, and their track record is excellent when it comes to supporting their products. No doubt LockOn was rushed out, but at least it's come out, and there's not another modern flight sim coming out, unless you count the re-hash Falcon Gold.

While I was disappointed in several aspects of LockOn I have come to accept that the days of Falcon 4 and the Janes sims are gone. Those sims killed their respective studios and eventually brought an end to the study sim market. Pretty graphics sell more than complex flight sims that take months to learn and unfortunately producers aren’t putting their money in to study sims anymore.

I'm sure the bugs will be fixed and hopefully new things will be released for it, but don't forget this was never meant to be a Falcon4 or a Janes F18 level sim, but from all accounts this is the best A-10 sim ever made, and with 3rd party help and the support at Eagle (forget UBI) it should only get better.

just because it is the norm to have **** software from the shelf doenst mean we dont have the right to be pissed off with it. and i played falcon when it came out, i do not remmeber beingf outmatched so horribly... and i dont give a monkeys whether its russian or not. it should be made accurately as a sim should if they have cut corners here... where else have they done this.

We're lucky to have a good community here that helps each other out finding solutions to these bugs. So far, I haven't seen anything that's preventing good gameplay. We are playing LOMAC just about every day, aren't we?

As for Russian aircraft outmatching American aircraft, check out the tracks I recorded. In the first one, I took out three before going down. The second try I took down all four enemy aircraft.

The MiG-29 and Flanker family right now hold the advantage close in with the Helmet mounted sight and at long range with the AA-10 (R-27), this holds true when it comes to real life, well until the AIM-9X enters service on a larger scale. It's realistic for the Russians to get the first shot off but it should be easy to avoid a long range AA-10 shot. This is also how it was in Falcon 4 if you were facing SU-27's.

The AMRAAM needs work in Lockon that's for sure, and Eagle is supposed to address it in the next patch, however I don't think that it's that far from being realistic. If I can get off 20nm shots with the AMRAAM and get a decent probability of a kill I'll be happy and so far offline I'm very close to getting that. I'd rather have it close than easily splashing Mig's from 40-30nm out like Falcon 4 and Janes sims.

    not in my experience.

It's tough taking on Russian aircraft alone or even with a partner. I think we need to engage with more support. I don't think it's smart taking on Migs when you're outnumbered 2:1. Gee, I wouldn't want to take them on if it were even numbers. Still, it is possible to get off 20nm shots with the AMRAAM with successful kills. You just have to get them on radar for the lock. I bet it can be done as long as you don't insert with the enemies already less than 40nm away. At that distance, they have you locked up before you even take off the ground.

Last night I tried a SP mission where you're escorting a transport and a couple of migs are up ahead. After my 5th go I managed to lock up 2 of the migs on TWS and got a good lock symbol. So I fired off 1 missile. Radar immediately went to 2nd mig and I fired. I waited a few seconds and then fired off another 2 amraams at the same planes so each had to going towards them. Only 1 out of 4 missiles hit so I went to my 9M's and took out the other 2 (I think my wingman got 1). All in all it took me about 8 attempts and only after I sent my wingman to help me (on the last try) did I reach success. After all that I crashed in the fog trying to see the runway lol.

    Damn ILS...

For the A10 I have no problems seeing the HUD ils, it's coordinating my plane to the directions that's the damn problem lol.

Thouge I did notice that being directly in line with the runway, the ILS wasn't centered on the hud. Dunno if that's meant to be the case or if I'm doing something wrong as 1st time for ILS landings.
