    F-15C Vs. Su-27 & Mig-29A

    F-15C Escorts - 610Kb

I've been practicing with the F15 and it is possible to take down Russian aircraft successfully. In these tracks I recorded, I take on 2 Su-27's and then 2 Mig-29A's. I failed the first time but managed to take out the enemy air fighters the second time. You'll notice that they seem to lock on to me at least 45nm from me. Turning on the ECM seems to hold off the Su's until 35nm. With a height advantage, I can easily take them out and, with luck, not have to evade any missiles. The Migs are much better foes. I couldn't find the second Mig on radar, forcing me to use boresight mode. They are also relentless in launching missiles first. Still on both engagements, I managed to get a firing solution just under 20nm.

While watching the replays, you can zoom and move the view so you can get a closer look at the way I target enemies on radar or check out the beautiful explosions the Su's and Migs make. You can also switch to external views like in normal play. Place the tracks in your Lock On/Missions/Tracks directory.

BAH... I was hoping you had made an actual video clip...

At first, I thought this thread was about Battlefield: Desert Combat.... (of course, DC doesn't have an Su-27, merely an Su-25...)

So cing are you gonna get lock on and join us in the skies?

Sarc we tried some TvT. Logical and Big-B v Me and Fanatik. The idea was to check out the radar capability of the F15 with me playing sitting duck. Fanatik then joined and in turned into a respawning furball.

One thing that was strange is that logical could lock me up way before I could lock him (unless I was doing something wrong - in SU27). However when I could lock him up I could shoot before him.

The SU27 also has the helmet mount. This is deadly and combined with the SU27's firing range makes this the most deadly plane in lock on, for tvt anyway. The helmet mount allows you to lock targets at a 45 deg view from center - logical was in a tangle with fanatik. I came up below him and just had to look up to get a lock. Then it was just a matter of pointing the nose and pulling the trigger. It's seriously unfair at the mo.

Strange that different results come from tvt v coop.

What range were you able to fire you amraams? I have trouble on anything over 15nm's

ps: Can you make it into a movie clip? In fact perhaps we should do a lock on movie? Could be pretty good

Big B and I were acctually talking about this the other day... Get some thoughts together and lets have a LOMAC Movie meeting and see what we can get brought to the table... God knows that with Sarc and I we have pretty good movies... RIGHT SARC!! And if anyone else can help... more is always better.

    Yeah! good stuff

I remember the RvS movie - that was great. I'm thinking we could set up a tvt game and film from there. One thing we can also do (as a cheat) is 'fly' F14's. We can't actually do it but we can fool the game into showing us in f14's by changing the skins over if we wanted to include some carrier footage.

One other thing we could do is have a mass land battle. I've been thinking of doing a mission where I place maybe 10 M2 bradleys's rolling over the landscape and coming over a hill where enemy armour is located on the other side. Now what should happen is that the Bradleys should open up with their TOWs, which I reckon should be a pretty cool shot. Having a couple of A10's buzz low over them when they fire would make an even better scene. We can do the same with Apache's, mrls launchers. We may even be able to film a patriot taking out an incomming missile.

Some close formation flying of the F15's firing off some missiles with the sun rising in the background and a few clouds would be pretty cool.

Now all we need to do is find a way to get us in the cockpits and waving to the camera.

Why fool it?... We can show a real F-14 landing on carrier if we want. Lock-On has an AVI Video output in which all views by the person recorded displayed are recorded. Anything you can tell the program to do we can capture as long as we are watching it.

The F14 will have to be AI for a carrier takeoff/land. In the air though we can't tell the AI to do complex manouvers, etc. Changing a skin we could play the part of it in the air and for landing/takeoff we can film the AI - this is if we wanted to use the F14 - I imagine a similar thing could be done with the F18. Remember though the cockpits remain the same.

Thinking more on it though we could land on a AC carrier if we use the Mig or flanker? I forget which can carrier land but there's no reason we can't change the skin for that and land on a US carrier.

I record two tracks yesterday night and now we're doing a movie?!

I'll convert the successful escort to an AVI just for Cing. It's a good thing Lock On has that convert to AVI feature. I hope it's not riddled with bugs.

    Wow, interesting thread.

Jex, to answer your question, Goalie had said that the SU-33 is the Russian carrier plane--I imagine it's the only one equipped with the tail hook.

I just used Lock On's AVI feature and it not the best. The recording is done in two stages, the video recording (slooooow!) and the audio recording (realtime). It doesn't record the audio even though it seems to save it after the video recording. I think it would be better for us to distribute the tracks. It's smaller and we can adjust the views to our liking during playback. A video would only be good for people like Cing that don't have Lock On.

Oh Jex, the important distances are bolded in my first post.

I got the track converted to DivX but it's nearly 55Mb. For those that have Lock On, it's best to just download the track. It's not worth me putting up the vid unless those without Lock On really want to see it. It's nothing special, just me shooting down four planes. I can't really cut it down any more or you'll lose a lot of detail. As it is, you see missiles firing and then trails of smoke. My intention of posting the tracks was for us to study what went well with the engagements and what could be better the next time around.
