Re: Auto racers here?

Were mainly talking about PC Sims. Are they multiplayer demos?

Re: Auto racers here?

PC sims were the focus of my inquiry. Both those demos are single player only. I should reiterate that of the 2 games I'm pimping, only GTR is currently released, and really my key interest here. GT Legends is due in 'early' 2006 (but the demo is freakin great regardless). I'm sure that I'll be eager to shift interest from GTR to GT Legends once it's released. There's something more exciting about the older mechanical/technical traits of the classics. The modern cars are so sanitized in comparison. Still incredible to drive, but almost too slick and precise to have any personality. But I'll still love it til Legends comes out!

Re: Auto racers here?

I really enjoyed the GTR FIA demo. I don't have a wheel though and I think that's probably a must have. Racing sims are a lot of fun and a good break from blowing stuff up so I'll look into it.

Re: Auto racers here?

I originally played with a joystick. I managed to get good enough not to embarrass myself in front of the AI, but was by no means competitive. Getting the wheel combo suddenly made the sim immersive and intuitive.

Oh, man... I get to race in a Mustang? I'm there!

Where can I get a cheap wheel combo?

In some places. From their website:

So... What's the difference between the UK version and the US version?

Beats me. I always assumed that non-US versions were somwhow not fully compliant with our systems. But that's my ignorance speaking.

EDIT: Strangely enough, Amazon has it available through 3rd party sellers.

And another edit: It seems GT Legends uses Starforce copy protection. Something I never heard of, but apparently is very controversial. Now I'm feeling cautious about rushing out to get this game. Although it looks like Starforce is in the GT Legends *demo*... and doing a quick search I found that it is already installed on my machine. Can't say I've noticed any of the problems that are shouted about on the web, so I guess I don't really have anything to particularly worry about. [shrug]

Re: Auto racers here?

Eh personally I'll stick with PGR3. And clean racing is the only way to go. Once you start spinning people out you just look like an ass.

PGR3 is fun but it isn't anywhere near as in depth as Nascar 2003. As much as I hate Nascar their is nothing like starting 42nd on Talledaga and working you way throught the field to the front without spinning yourself or anyone out along the way. You have to bump sometimes but you dont want to be taking guys out along the way, yellow flags take forever.

Re: Auto racers here?

I'm just more for the arcade style racers. They're way more fun to me. Obviously in all racing games you never REALLY wanna hit other people (aside from Burnout), but there will always be times when some enormous mosh pit of Ferraris and Lamborghinis run into eachother and a wall, and you glide right by them in a Benz.

Then you hear the drivers of those 'nicer' cars yelling because you took the lead. And those times hold a special place with me.
