Dog Fighting Tip
When you're in a tight turn you bleed air speed. Each plane can pull only so many G's before it starts to loose air speed. If you keep an eye on your airspeed, you can see the speed decrease but if you ease off a little, the more you ease off the G's the more speed your aircraft can hold.
There is a point where you should be able to maintain a steady airspeed whilst turning by applying the right amount of G's. Try this by flying straight at 600kts and then pull a hard G turn (either left or right). Watch your airspeed start to drop. Now keep easing off the stick until you see your speed starts to hold. The airspeed will increase as you further ease off. With the speed held you are now in a position to control it by (either by easing off - bigger turn radius, or pulling more - Tighter turn but loss of speed) I think this is known as 'Turning Speed' of which the F15 just scrapes head of the others. |
