Agh, I'm getting an incredible amount of performance issues and graphical bugs and call me a graphics whore, but it doesn't look like all it's cranked up to be.

God help me, I still love it.

OOOH! Now I know.. I thought you were familiar with the FS series.

OK.. "Don't Sink" is the warning you get when the plane is underpowered for it's weight and is in danger of 'sinking' in altittude.. 'Sinking' can be intentional - like when landing but at other times, it could be fatal.

The 'Bouncing' is common in all MSFS titles that I can remember. They do it that way because they are simulating 'flying' and not 'crashing', so they put nothing into 'crash' simulation.. commercial simulators just go to a red screen when you crash - at least with the bouncing, you have an opportunity to regain control of the plane and continue on after you 'oops'.

The MSFS series is historically demanding on PC graphics. EVen today it is possible to bog down a high-end system with MSFS CoF (2004) so it doesn't surprise me if you have choppy performance at medium-high. It may also help to turn off the frame-rate limiter if they still have it in this one. I imagine medium through high settings may be best viewed using SLi or Crossfire systems.

    Make sense any?

yeah, it makes sence. The FPS rate limiter is still there, I set it at 40, but will disable it.

Yep, goto Settings on the sidebar there, and then goto Customize in the bottom right or something, has like 100 settings.

Well.. so far I am unimpressed. I am going to look into tweaking some settings but visually I found it to be less than 2004 and framerates would drop to the high 20's at times on very-high settings.

Water and details look.. oh I dunno.. the same? OK.. up CLOSE they look great.. but at 5000 feet? 'eh...

The traffic looked fake and patterned..

This is just a first impression I'll mess with it more tomorrow.

I told ya! So the performance isn't normal then. I figured it wasn't, but oh well. I hope its not like that in the full version.

Re: New MS Flight Sim (FSX)

Overall, I liked the demo. I was expecting to be impressed more but I can see a big potential. With the release of DX10 and compatible hardware, this will definetely be a title to see.

    Ups:

    - Virtual Cockpits (looks great)
    - Airplane models
    - Water
    - New camera options
    - Sounds
? Improved ATC (not sure though, I havent played FS2004 for a long time and dont remember ATC options too much)

    Downs:
    - Graphical glitches (Normal to see in demos/betas. Hoping to see them fixed in final product)

    Neutral:
    - I wasnt impressed with the ground traffic. It looked so much better in promotion videos, I dont know why.

Recommended Settings (Note that I am not a FS expert. Just reporting what worked for me better. I prefer quality over quantity (less objects with better texture/LOD)):

    - Without AA and AF, it looks ugly in my opinion. I accept the performance hit.
    - All visual setting are high, airplane display setting ultra high. I keep autogen and traffic options at low not to get a big performance hit due to my low-end CPU (AMD 64 3000+)
    - 1024x768
    - Frame rate locked at 20 (As you know, frame rate locker is to allow more CPU power for other things. I find it quite acceptable to play with 20 fps in a flight sim). The problem is, fps drops to 8-10 when I am flying low over urban areas or airports

    About Missions
    -------------------

Very poorly demonstrated. Hard to understand what they were thinking. That "flour targeting" mission turns a good simulation into a silly arcade game.

I wish they chose a mission to immerse the player into the virtual world. Maybe a rescue or transportation one. Instead we got a "Mario Brothers Strike Back" mission

Yes. Not sure exactly ow it will be implemented, but there will be. There could be pilot/co-pilot combos, general traffic, ATC'ers.. that sort of stuff.

Re: New MS Flight Sim (FSX)

OK, After some further play.. I am becoming more and more pleased with FSX. It's isn't a blockbuster replacement for 2004, but from what I have seen so far, it is very worthy of taking the title into the next 2 or 3 years.

I noticed some very tricky flight dynamics that were as accurately portrayed as possible on a PC. I had a really good time flying each of the aircraft at very high settings. ALTHOUGH, the frame rate dropped to 15 - 17 FPS at times, according to the built-in counter.. it didn't seems that slow and the aircraft remained very controlable and manageable.. I even question the accuracy of the FPS counter.

More later.. but that is what I am finding. At this stage, it is now a 'buy' when they release arrives in October.
