Re: New MS Flight Sim (FSX)
Hehe. Suffice to say that I overstressed that bus when I tried to pull out of a 90 degree nose dive. I mean, come on, it was only like 10 G's
![]() Maybe, just maybe, it didn't help that I had just stalled out the damn thing after flying 90 degrees vertically at about 10,000 feet. If nothing else about the graphics, max out the water setting and just watch the light shine off (especially with the moon out in full) |

Re: New MS Flight Sim (FSX)
The game is on shelves (in some states) for a while before the official release date.
I will try hard not to get it since I need to focus on my work nowadays. Those of you who can, have a great time ! I highly recommend tweaking it properly for your system and playing with yoke/pedals/TrackIR. If you are new to flight sims, I suggest you learn how to make a flight plan, airport concepts (ex.runway designations), GPS and how to use it together with autopilot, basic autopilot functions and of course landing. I am not an expert flight simmer but let me know if you need any help with these basic things. Without knowing them, it would be very boring playing a flight sim. I heard many people saying "What is the point of flying from point A to B?". Well, if you fly like you are flying a jet in Battlefield 2 (i.e. using only throttle, pitch, yaw and roll controls) it will be indeed boring. But there is so much to explore and learn in flight sims like this (fully interactive cockpit with lots of instruments, flight mechanics, geopraphy, meteorology, physics), once you start using them, it is not going to be simply going from point A to B. This is a great time to get into flight sims (X-plane, MSFS, Lock-On, Falcon, IL-2...) |

Re: New MS Flight Sim (FSX)
Mine feels smooth, I just had to put some of the settings down.
I had a chance tonight to do some multiplayer flying sharing a plane, and it was fun as heck. My buddy piloted a 737-800 while I co-piloted. It was kind of a mess, but we took a flight around Seattle departing from Seattle-Tacoma. We touched back down at the Boeing airfield nearby and almost ran outta runway. Then I took over the controls and we tooled around for a while in a DeHaviland Beaver over the Puget Sound area. Overall a very cool experience sharing the aircraft in pilot/copilot roles. |

Re: New MS Flight Sim (FSX)
My biggest fear with this simulator is proving to be true. It's making me want to upgrade my hardware again. I had to dial quite a few details back to get acceptable frame rates.
I did discover that the default Cessna 172 now spins.

Re: New MS Flight Sim (FSX)
Here's some more of my thoughts on the product overall.
First of all, the graphics are amazing, even on mostly medium settings (which is the highest I can run before it slows down to a slideshow). I've been flying a lot in the French countryside and the northwest United States, and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. The virtual cockpits are great, especially in the jumbo jets. You will need a monster rig to boost up the settings though. But I'm quite surprised at how well I'm able to run this game. The flying is amazing, even in plain old Free Flight without a flight plan. All of the aircraft have distinctively different flight models. There are some flaws, as Pave pointed out the Cessna behaves very unrealistically under stall conditions. Flight planning is good and I'm pretty sure all of the aircraft come with a GPS unit. It makes me wish I had another monitor to put the GPS on because I use it so much. Now it's been about 10 years since I've played a MSFS game (FS5 in 1995), so I was a bit intimidated by this game at first. But FSX is pretty damn newbie friendly. The game comes packed with tons of tutorials and a virtual encyclopedia of aviation info in-game. Then there are like, 50 missions you can fly that go from very easy to eventually competing in a Red Bull air race or landing a plane on a moving bus (haven't attempted those yet). Believe it or not, I'm having a blast and I haven't killed a single Nazi or fragged a zombie. It's a helluva fun game that is extremely immersive. If you have any interest at all in aviation, I'd recommend it. Just be warned that you'll need a good machine to run it. |
