Re: Flight Formation Team Recruiting
We will be planning a loose schedule for practice for a period of 2 hours each. I'd like all members to try for at least 3 practices a month. The reason being is that any less will mean our goal will be a lot longer in coming and we may loose our 'edge' if we do less.
Practices will usually fall over the weekend but being realistic, we all have friends and family and summer is here and those trips to the lake, parties, sports, etc will take precedents over this. With this in mind I will post up practice dates and then we can go from there to adjust it to meet the teams availability. The problem here being that if practices are missed, then those members that do so will fall behind the rest of the team as we will be working on a planned practice to build up our necessary skill set. However this can be overcome in two ways. One is to practice on your own following the document I'm making that will be available to DL at these forums (in word format). This will have to be detailed but I will endeavor to keep it as simple and short as possible. The second alternative is to get online with other members and go over what was done in practice. A lot of our early practices won't involve much formation flying - it will concentrate on our skill set. I would say join the team and see how it goes. I'd rather have you on board than not at all and we may find that we can work with this. It's early days so far and nobody really knows how difficult or easy this will be. Note to all members: Can you DL and practice the mission attached to this thread with regards to mid-air refuelling. I'd like you all to be able to do this without using speed hold or altitude hold. The KC-10's are travelling at 349 kts, at a height of 6551 feet. remember the fuel bay is on your left shoulder, just behind you, so position your plane a little to the right of the boom. Try going at it full AB as you approach and then use the airbrake to slow you down. The more you practice, the more you'll learn as to how effective your airbrake is and how your throttle inputs affect your flight. |
