4XRTS basically means they took the other nice things from 4x games (diplomacy, trading, influence, etc.) and incorporated it into a RTS game. It is still real-time and it isn't turn-based if that's what you are worried about. You can easily pick up on the game and realize you can't fight a battlecruiser with a few light frigates. Although, you can overpower a single BC with like 20 LCs.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
drool........
I love it.... It is like a brain child from the guys who did Angles Fall First for Home world 2 and Nexus, just way better and done by other people- at least I think none of the hobbyists/ professional hired game makers at AFF universe works on it.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
Hmm...still no demo announcement. I was really looking forward to a demo...
![]() Oh well, the beta 4 was pretty good. I honestly like this more than I ever did with HW2. Might just end up in my collection (great!). ![]()

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
I wonder if I can still play this game on my somewhat-dying hardware...
I'm worried if I'll get the phyiscal copy I pre-ordered so many months ago. I'll probably be on the day it releases. Find me on Xfire so we can get some TG vs. AI games going. ![]()

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
What I really love about this game is the greater gameplay area. It's like a giant spiderweb of strategy. You can zoom into epic space battles and out to plan your next chess move, all the while utilizing diplomacy, trade, etc. Kind of reminds me of SupCom but with different battles raging at the same time, and with Civs diplomacy.
Could prove to be a monster program to run CPU-wise for many systems, we shall see. I definitely feel like my brain will explode playing this game though. If you thought SupCom was a beast, this thing looks even more beastly.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
OMG my beloved SupCom.
Why have I let you lapse for CoD4 and now this correctly named Sins.. Sins of a Solar Gamer...er I mean Empire. Oh well chess, large scale intersolar battles and Gambit to save me from the Hordes once again. What more can a gamer ask for! |

Diplomacy is the greatest asset. It'll help your outer (and smaller) colony asteroids from getting taken over so easily (and also help them reconvert if they can taken over).

Recommended - 2.2 GHz Dual- or Quad-Core Processor, 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Windows Vista), 256 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon X1600 / GeForce 7600 and above) And the demo seems to be coming out about a month after release

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
I'd say w/o a dual core or at the very least an OC'd Pentium 3.5Ghz+, you may have an issue with the larger battles in SSE. Now, I havent even played the game yet... but from what I know of its design and by comparing it with a game like SupCom (and Civ4 for that matter), you'd do well to have some form of parallel processing (dual-core, multiproc, etc.). It's all about cpu cycles in these games. Vid. processing isnt really an issue. And you can crank down the settings all you want, but the fact will remain that your system has to chunk an extremely large amount of data in real-time.
Not having a demo for people to test the game on kinda sux.
