Of course, quite a few people here probably have systems much better than my own. So this game might not be that much of a challenge until about 4 hours into a 5 solar system galaxy with 7 AIs/Humans in varying alliances and sizable forces on all sides. Otherwise, it's a fantastic game given their intended goals and the release date. Really helps me to visualize several science fiction novels in my collection (Honor Harrington Series, Falcon Banner Series, etc.).

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
New Gamespy article came out a few days ago:
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/sins-of-a-s.../847593p1.html What this article reminded me about the game is the unit cap is dynamic. Basically, you're not allowed to build "x" amount of units unless your beuracracy will support it. And once it does, you can never go back - you're "taxed" for that unit cap basically. If you dont like managing huge amounts of ships you can set your society up to support a smaller more subtle force and maximize it to do-so. Concurrently, even if you have the resources to build more ships.. you cant, unless you take the plunge to raise the cap. Knowing if, when, and how high to put your cap. is a minigame in itself. Man, it's like a strategic tactical overload. (sigh) this game is going to kill me. Luckily, I have to go out of town for a while so I wont get sucked in... but I'll be able to play for a few days. If it plays on my laptop though then you can expect to see me often. ![]() this is a cool vid btw: p.s. Hey Acro, do you know if the resolution mechanics are "diceroll" or static (like in SupCom)? Hopefully they're static.. i'm not a big fan of dice-roll RTS.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
Found out some interesting tidbits today:
1) There will be no copy protection on the DVD... rather you'll be rewarded for purchasing the game with extra content (mods, editors, etc.) + the usual Stardock downloader capability. So technically, you can give the game out to your friends to try. I'm not sure about the MP aspect though, there may be serial protection involved there. 2) A Star Trek mod is already in the works. ![]()

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
They will both be out at the same date.
But I believe you could download the game at midnight. The only thing is that you have to pay retial which is 45.99 or 49.99. The retailers will not let Stardock sell the game for less than the brick and mortar stores will sell it for. |

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
I look at this game as basically "you get out of it what you put in." It doesnt seem like something that will necessarily entertain the "lazy-gamers" in us all. It is, above all else, a Stardock strategy game. Love it or hate it I guess. They do have a scapegoat for this game though, and that's each map is totally customizable, and the game itself is fully moddable... so, I guess if the game sux it's our own fault.
![]() Personally, I liked the design behind GalCiv, but they epic failed in not making that game multiplayer or at the very least coop. Also, it wasnt as customizable at SSE is. I ended up putting the game down. Hopefully SSE fills in the blanks in what was missing with GalCiv. I know you didnt like SupCom Sarcoma, so I'm hoping this game is more your flavor. It seems to take the best of games like SupCom, GalCiv, and Civ4, and mix em all together.

I ordered mines as both retail and download. So I'll have the download ready to play and the physical DVD about a week later. Did the same thing with my copy of GalCiv2.
