Man, I cant wait. Best xfer rate I've ever had (way better then D2D or fileplanet). The Stardock client is pretty slick. p.s. I've just made a temp. TS channel

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
Okay, xfer rate is erratic and went to hell now. I guess the word is out on the game releasing early.
![]() By the time this DLs and installs it'll probably be midnite anyways.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
Ummm... this game is ridiculous. If you couldnt handle SupCom's info. overload, dont bother playing SoSE. It's literally Civ4 in space, but in real time. So picture dealing with all that information... on-the-fly. Play Civ4 with no timer basically... LoL In a way, there are actually more complex elements then even Civ4 (certain aspects)
This has to be what seems the most challenging RTS I've ever touched. Clicking isnt a factor at all, neither are pre-programmed "robo-strats." You have to think and deal with huge amounts of info., and do it on the fly... fluidly. And I've just touched the tutorials so far... geez p.s. The Black Market and Bounties were a stroke of genius. p.p.s. I will say that the game design really makes it easy to compute all the info. you need to make informed strategic choices. You dont really have to sift around very much to find anything and there are alerts for nearly everything of importance. Things rarely happen w/o you knowing. So even though it's mind-numbing, it's not cumbersome. VERY well designed software.

Confirming my worst fears... My graphics card is shot to hell in terms of gaming. I can play DVDs, but anything more intensive than that and my framerate goes to hell. Guess it'll be a few months before I can play this game. *sigh* I hope the rest of you enjoy the game. ![]()

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
Note: this game is NOT for the weak. It requires serious dedication to master. I believe this will turn many people off from the game, as it's a bit hardcore. But man, it's a gratifying game to try to figure out.
What's worse is the tutorials purposely are pretty vague, along with the manual, and there's no single player campaign to "walk you through" the game slowly... mastering different elements every mission. Basically, you're thrust into war and have to play your best from the get go. It can be frustrating. Things wont ramp up until the learning curve is gone through. Hint: try to play co-op games with others (me and amu played together tonite). You can load up a small 3 player map and do 2v1, this gives you time, reinforcements, and info. you can use to grasp the game more quickly. If you do 1v1 as you're starting out, you're going to get pwned and frustrated. Another Hint: dont play Advent unless you plan on really getting into it, because it requires a bit more thought process. The terminologies are totally different from the other races, and the strats are a lot more abstract. I had trouble just figuring out which ships were scouts. It's kind of something you should stick with if you plan on playing them. At least until you master them.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
THIS GAME IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. It has everything I have been looking for in a game strategy game. I hated Civ4 with a passion. I am really glad this came out.
I have to agree with Gambit. The learning curve to this game is *very* steep. You have to be able to sit through the tutorials for a good 20-30 minutes to learn all the basics before you can do anything fun. I highly recommend not skipping the tutorials. Even after the tutorials there is a lot to learn. I have been playing 1v1 regular comp, and have been destroyed. I did not even realize you can bribe pirates for your favor. I am loving the hardcore aspect of the game though.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
Im not 100% sold right now, but maybe because I haven't played with/against any humans. The diplomatic/mission system isn't deep at all and pretty one sided. All you pretty much do is buy their loyalty, there is no real depth to it. It really feels like Rise of Nations in space. Now I'm not saying thats a bad thing, its just a lot more military heavy than I expected. Ill definitely have to play a bit more before I can come to a final conclusion.
