Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
I have almost finished my break-in game. 1v1 on a small map, easy setting. I hope the learning curve levels out soon. I’m sure that I am missing a ton of management details. Going to start a harder game this weekend.
Few questions. Am I stuck with fleet mobs or can I organize them. How can I manage my taxes? Sarcoma

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
This answer probably won't help but from my experience I have not been able to use "fleets" very well. I have gotten used to not using fleets or control groups. It gets cumbersome at times, but I think the best way to manage ships is to have a galaxy view and click on the gauge to the left of the planet. (What I mean by gauges are the things to the left right and bottom of each planet: Left-Your friendly ships; Bottom-Your buildings; Right-Enemy ships)
You cannot set tax rates. Tax revenue is determined by the following things: 1. Eliminating Underdevelopment Tax Rate through Planet Development 2. Population 3. Trade Ports 4. Planet Allegiance 5. Capital Planet status When colonizing a new planet the planet will be a tax burden to your economy. You will actually lose money when you colonize a new planet. You must first eliminate the tax burden by developing the planet. Further planet developments may also increase your population that will increase your tax income. Investment in technologies that increase planet population will also increase your tax income. Alternatively, you should create trade ports between 2 adjacent planets. You must have atleast 2 trade ports to receive tax income from trade ports. You can research technologies that increase the cargo hold of trade ships to further increase your tax revenue. Another tip: Mouse over the number of credits you have on the top bar, and it will tell you the revenue generated from each planet.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
For organization I use the fleets and then place them in control groups once I expand enough that I have to worry about multiple fronts and spend a lot of time zoomed out. Once in a fleet and you start moving the fleet around, your ships will align themselves with your close range units in front, capital ship(s), command ship(s) and Flak ships in the center and your long range, A/C cruisers and support ships in the rear. It might have been cooler if they allowed a couple of different formations but this works well enough.

Re: Sins of a Solar Empire?
I'm hoping to be able to at least play the game in a few months. I just can't believe I'll have the retail in a few days and it'll be sitting on my desk for weeks.
