Soldner Beta Demo version 2
Apparently Jowood has released a brand new demo for Soldner. This is not a patch. The old demo needs to be removed from your computer and the new one installed.

Here is the list of things this new demo fixed:
Major Fixes:
Overall number of worldwide simultaneous players has been substantially increased. More servers are now available for players to access.
Fixed crash bug caused by crypter code
Fixed crash bug caused by refresh rate overrides of some drivers
fixed crash when portal disconnects player while playing
fixed crash if you die while throwing a grenade
fixed some problems with Win98
New soldier collision code which fixes several problems
A lock icon has been placed next to server names, indicating that server is password protected.
serverlist gets pinged faster (note: "xxx" means server has firewall and cannot transmit ping rate)
implemented "pop-up" map which can be used without having to leave game ("M Key)
Added new menu option that allows rate setting for different internet connection speeds
Implemented basic filters for server lists. Now servers can be filtered for the following:
Favorites
Hide password protected servers
Hide high ping servers
Hide servers w/earlier version of demo
Hide empty, full servers
Hostages are now released when you get them to the extraction area in Hostage Rescue mode
Play Balancing Fixes:
raised pricing of sniper kit and bombing kit
C4 bombs now last only 10 minutes
refill rate of medkit and toolkit raised
throwing grenades now reveals hidden snipers
commander remains as commander even if he is killed. Only way to have a new cmdr is to revote or disconnect
· raised the distance player names are shown
· increased range of Infra-Red and Night Vision devices
· adjusted capture radius of flags
· Player only spawns once per round in Team Deathmatch and Hostage Rescue mode
· adjusted MG3 and PKM bullet spread value
· adjusted reloading speeds of all launchers
· changed behavior of non guided and locking missiles
Minor Fixes:
· Put delay of 60 seconds in place for team changes
· slight map adjustments
· implemented different tree destructions
· fixed many problems with swimming
· changed soldier jump and way jumps are handled
· fixed some gesture mix up with text and sound
· fixed fence animation with broken fences
· fixed several minor menu problems
· Soldier stance display now works correctly with Ctrl Key
· fixed reloading and timer display on unit secondary weapons
· put tutorial screens in place
· Implemented team menu to allow equipping before spawning in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes
· Fixed several inconsistencies with unit settings regarding scopes, camera, weapons and physics
· fixed the slow motion bug for units without controllers (driver/pilots)
· fixed vanishing lock hud with apaches and hinds
· flashbang now has sound
· fixed/adjusted many sounds of units
· volume for long distance sounds adjusted
· implemented occlusion culling for faster speed
· fixed some particle effects problems with map change and units on hooks
· speedup of water Fx and fog
· improved support for logging crash errors
· removed ability to connect to local client with web interface
NOTE: There is a rare crash that a user may experience. The crash has to do with distance rendering of rockets. It is being addressed, but should not affect your gaming experience overall as it has been rare.
To be honest, the poor quality of the original beta left me with almost zero desire to try this next one. I would only download it if some of you were impressed with this new one...Right now, JOINT OPERATIONS , is satisfying my craving for larger maps and more realistic military action...

Looks an awful lot like the first version of the beta demo. Some of the dates are from before the version 2 was released.

Well, I downloaded it because Jex found a fast mirror. It sucks. I still can't connect to a server. I guess I'll try again in a few days just in case they need to upgrade servers or something. I haven't even played the game because it either crashes or I can't get on a server.

Maybe they should release a singleplayer demo instead of this multiplayer portal crap. I don't know the reason for this second version. We can't test the fixes if we still can't play the game because of portal overload.

Any word on this?
I managed to connect to some server, but there was very little activity. Either they are holding a lot up their sleeve with this beta or it's going to end up being another delayed release.
If they do end up releasing on time, I won't expect much in the stability department..

I haven't bothered trying it out since it was released. It had the same problems as the first demo. I'm too fed up to check the forums if their stupid portal is working again. And, that "Soldner" wave file that plays on launch has really pissed me off.
I doubt it will be released on time. There are too many problems with the portal system. I have a bad feeling it will be the downfall of Soldner. SP may rock but MP will have problems if their portal servers can't scale up to meet traffic.

IMO this game sucks already. I played it and I don't like the way it plays. The controls seem too awkward and there's something abot the look and feel of it that really puts me off. JO on the other hand at least seems to play right (though lacks a lot of realism which is a pity).
The instant sniper hide - where you become completely invisible is ridiculous. That's really going to work well isn't it? Why not just provide more ground cover. The money system will just piss people off. Limited funds won't go down well on a server full of pubbies. Who will play on a server that limits the funds as opposed a server that lets you buy what you want. The funding will only work on servers that play cooperatively (So that'd be TG then
) but who at TG is buying it? Enough to get a decent game going?
I had quite high expectations for this game and so far they have been let down in the demo. There is no "instant sniper hide" as reported by some online review as holes in buildings seem to appear randomly and not at the point of impact, meaning you can't just punch a hole in a wall and set up.
So having played the 2nd demo I have seen no difference in the game. The protal system still sucks and the maps are still uninspiring. Personally I think OFP is better.Jex.

Dude, how cant you like the game? I played for like 10 hours strait and never got tired of it. Wake up dude. Give new controls a try and it most definently pays off. Especially this game.
