If you haven't really followed the series, mostly the game is based on very large maps, and to assist you with that, you have the ability to zoom out a very long distance (like looking at the mini map, but more control. The game play also can involve very (and i mean very) large army's. But for them to be effective, you still need combined arms. The biggest baddest tanks can be destroyed by one bomber/gunship.

Sadly, my comp can't handle SC2. A shame since I enjoyed the scale of the first game. New games are starting to leave me behind and I don't have the ability to upgrade (darn laptop!). Another thing that is worth mentioning about the SC series is that the goal isn't to destroy the enemies base, but to take out the opposing Command Unit. This adds a nice twist on the tactical side of things.
