its a fun game to be sure, but i cant even beat the AI on friggin EASY! I hate that you cant "turtle up" like in most RTS's. Thats what i like to do and then send massive amounts of troops at the enemy. If i wait around, they over run me. So i tried capturing as many points as possible. They STILL over ran me. I dont get it. Its on EASY!!! Blah. If its this hard i dont think im gonna get it. Its a shame cuz it is a fun game.

LOL, you just suck then Snail. If you want to turtle, I suggest going for the German defensive doctrine. The range and power on the 88s is just insane.

I just have to add my favorite experience of the demo here. I called in a P-47 strafing run on some German mortar teams. Somehow they shot the plane down, but it slammed into the ground right into the mortar teams anyway lol.

Looks like us DoW players will have an early advantage in this title.

It is definitely hard. Unless I am using the Airborne tech tree I struggle to stay alive on Easy. Snail is right, because the way the resource collection works you can't grab 4-5 points and hunkerdown because the rate at which you collect the resources cannot cover production. This is compounded further by the fact that manpower is not based on farms or factories but by actually hold CPs so you cant build a huge base and produce troops without attacking. Even when I hold close to half the map, I still have a tough time supplying ammo for my forces. I cant even imagine what it is like to play on Hard.

I think Airborne is the best strategy for the US forces, at least for my style of play (on the slower side but with a purpose. Attacking when there is a chance but otherwise building up and picking away from long range.) Airborne gives you versatile infantry (upgrade to AT troops if necessary) so you dont have to rely on weaker rifle squads to help support the heavy ranger squads. The airstrikes (strafing and bombing runs) are a lot faster and more effective, if lined up right, than the off field artillery and do not cost manpower points like howitzers/calipoli rockets. You can also seal off approaches with barbed wire, mines and tank traps and not worry about cutting off supply routes from your base because you can paradrop your infantry, mortars, MGs and AT cannon.

All equipment and troops in this defense are gifts from gravity.

I played a skirmish game (can't wait to play more). I was Allies and I decided to try out the armor commander. It wasn't so hard. It definitely wasn't as easy as most RTS games are on "easy" mode, and for a while I thought I might lose, but I just kept fighting and eventually took out the German main base with a concentrated push while I let one infantry squad protect all the other CPs.

The key to Relic's other smash RTS, DoW, is grabbing the opponent's CP's very very early in the game - as in, your first unit built is decapping enemy CP's before doing anything else. Might be worth a try in this game.

That is the only way I have been able to win. Capture as fast and as many as possible, without over extending. The one thing I do like that is different from DoW is that there are no hero units. I found that on the tougher difficulties in DoW the computer would rely on hero units, who could destroy multiple squads at once.

If you think that's bad, Aculle, you should play online with the expansion pack. SM got a new hero unit, the best one in the game AFAIK, that just tears through people. Force Commander + Librarian + Chaplain = ouch!

So in COH I can't send my Comany Commander charging headlong into a platoon of enemy infantry and expect him to wipe half of his foes out?

Turns out I was playing on "Normal." I played another game where I almost lost (15 points left) and then I steamrolled the computer, and now I can basically win without trying. I think I'll bump up the difficulty and see what the AI can do, but as with most RTS games I assume all the fun is in multiplayer. I wonder if they'll give an MP demo out or not.

    Re: Company of Heroes

I use the blitzkrieg doctrine as the Germans and armored company as the allies.

As an armored commander as the in-game tool tips say I am slow to build up strength however I make up for it with the heaviest allied tanks in the game. The raid ability is great as my jeeps/half tracks/Greyhound armored cars can advance for me and capture territory. The Calliope sherman is great for 600 MP points I get a tank that is just as good as a regular (unupgraded) Sherman and rockets of death to pound defensces with. Once I get the M26 Pershing I have a tank that will slaughter Panzers/Panthers/Stugs and can deal with a Tiger more effectively then my shermans can.

As a blitzkrieg commander I get stormtroopers, Stuhs, and two tiger tanks.

I was playing in a 3v3 earlier in the beta, and I swear the opponents, just saved all their resources and build like 7 or 8 tanks to streamroll over my back bases. The mode was like elimination. Of course I lost.

^^^^Build like 4 AT guns. Problem solved.

If you get the feeling your opponents are doing that try to advance on their territory make them have no choice but to fight you.

    Re: Company of Heroes

ive never played rts games online. Prolly cuz i suck at them. O love playing AOE and destroying the AI. For me thats loads of fun. I love single player cuz i can actually win.

I finally beat the AI in COH just now on easy. The airborne doctrine realy helps. The ability to call in reinforcements anywhere is a life saver. Plus, bombing runs are just bad ass.

    Re: Company of Heroes

You do have to be careful with the bombing runs because the computer can build AA and shoot down you planes before they even start their run if you dont line the attack up correctly.

I tend to stay away from online RTS where you have to build up a base and an army as it feels more like a race than a battle.
