Re: Company of Heroes
Yeah, a CoH TS channel would be cool if someone can set that up. Also, yeah lately we've been playing AI multiplayer, but like snail said, if we get enough people on we should go head to head w/some even teams. The game's still pretty new like alot of us on on the 33rd so it shouldn't be a prob. sordavie.

Re: Company of Heroes
Relic's RTS's haven't been very turtle-friendly. Dawn of War was simply impossible to turtle at all and my experiences thus far with CoH suggest it's very similar in this respect.
I think Relic wants us to be out there fighting over resource points as opposed to setting up intricate defensive networks in our bases - I believe it's intentional, is what I mean. Especially when you reach the later stages of the game, one artillery strike/air strike will decimate a very well defended position. To say nothing of the V1 Buzzbomb (Terror!!).
The key to this game seems to be maintaining tech advancement whilst creating sufficient units to control the various CPs. And micro - an ungodly amount of micro!A policy of freedom for the individual is the only truly progressive policy. -F.A. Hayek

Re: Company of Heroes
I've been favoring the Infantry Doctrine and concentrate on building up the defenses in multiplayer games. I've found that the defenses will funnel the enemy away from my territory towards the undefended portion. I'm still learning on how to balance the defense while still being able to mount an attack or repel the inevitable tank attack.
Also hit us up in the 33rd channel on TS if anyone is down for some multiplayer.-33rd- BaneII

Re: Company of Heroes
I picked this game up today and love it so far. The graphics are great and love the cinematic passages between levels ...well done..Last RTS I played was like Age of Empires II but all the chatter about this game made me want to get it. And I must say Its so far living up to my expectations...even in SP normal mode.
But...I have a question for all you COH players out there. Seems the game is creating a huge page file in windows xp...like 1.2 g. I tab out to ctl alt delete and check performance and while the game is running its up that high. Can't say that BF2 is doing that...I don't think so...so Im wondering if the game is coded to run like that.
I'm running 2 Gbs of Kingston VAlue Ram (4 X 512) with a AMC X2 4800+. Thought I was over an page file issues quite some time ago.
Correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't the page file utilized by the OS to run apps only when the RAM is fully utilized. So if that's true with my 2BG of ram plus the page file of 1.2 Gb --that just seems like something is awry there.
Everysetting is cranked to the max with no stuttering or hitching whatsoever. I ran it through the handy performance test (should all games have that or what) and the system rated highly capable for the settings. Anyhow...looking forward to some mp games with you TGers out there --when I get up to speed.
If anyone with a similar rig (2.4 dual core w 4X 512 Ram) wouldn't mind shouting out what they are seeing on their rig for a max page file I'd be much obliged.|TG-1st|Grunt

Re: Company of Heroes
I've got a similar rig but with a 4400+ and everything seems to run fine. I think the only other difference is that I'm not running everything on ultra so I'll double check that and my pagefile tomorrow sometime and let you know. I'm not sure exactly what the pagefile is, but your description sounds right from what I've read. I'll post something prob. tomorrow night after the A's game. Go A's!!!!!!

Re: Company of Heroes
Grunt, my PF usage said 970mb while running everything on high/ultra in a skirmish against normal setting. I'm running 2 evga 7800gts. Not sure if it helps or if this is kinda high but that's what I got :/

Re: Company of Heroes
Thanks Claw...well that makes me feel better I guess...970 MB is close to a gig and you are running 2 kick ass vid cards...so we're pretty close to parity I'd say...Guess it's the way the game is coded ??
Anyone else want to chime in?|TG-1st|Grunt

Re: Company of Heroes
It uses about 700MB of page file and 700MB of RAM for me. There's plenty more RAM from the 2GB I have but it just doesn't use it. The game runs smooth on medium settings 1280x1024 so I'm not going to worry.

Physical memory is your RAM.
