Heh. I was right upset with my lazy ass for not having my figs painted in time to play for the Medusa V campaign last summer. And here I am still trying to get it done, lol. Geeze. I just need to buckle down and get on with it.

I play this. I have Dark Crusade, and if I can find my blasted CD-keys (reinstall woes..), I also have Winter Assault and the original DoW. PM me if you're interested in a game.

Hopefully the announcement of Starcraft 2 will speed up the release of another 40k RTS.

Comon you know you would kill someone to see a Tyranid swarm throwing itself at an Ultramarine base on the CoH engine.

Ah sho'nuff would, sonny Jeeyum! But I kinda miss that whole redneck Sci-Fi feel from playing SC marines. Both games have a high amount of class.

I'm in, although I'm not the best at the game. Too slow, too methodical probably.

Re: Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War --- Who plays this?

It looks like we have 5 takers so far. If we can get at least one more, that would make for some good 3v3 action or whatever. We can set games up either via the online lobby or through Hamachi, either works for me.

Just so that we're all on the same page, let's talk about what our favorite maps and preferred factions are.

My faction preferences, also listed in order of preference are:

- Space Marines
- Imperial Guard
- Necron
- Chaos

I am still working on the others to the point where I can play with them effectively. Also, I've been working on my Necron game more lately, so I'm a little more practiced with them than I am with the others at the moment... kind of feel a little rusty with the IG in particular when I think about what my opening build order with them would be, lol.

Maps that I like:

8 player maps generally, but my all time favorites include Forbidden Jungle, Burial Grounds, Penal Colony, and Daturis Pits (all three are x8). I also enjoy Kasyr Lutien (x6), Bloodshed Alley (x6), Quatra (x2), Mountain Trail (x2), and Dead Man's Crossing (x2).

In terms of proficiency, I can skunk the stock AI on "Insane" most of the time. Actually, I've been spending most of my offline practice time playing an AI mod lately called "Dawn of Skirmish" (you might have heard of it) that dramatically improves the AI behavior over stock behaviors. I can't touch "insane" with that mod on games larger than 1v1 - the AI is just too fast - but I hold my own and win most of the time on that mod's "hard" setting... and it's no cake walk then either. I've played games against the DoS AI that have taken me 3 1/2 hours to beat, taking and losing ground meter by bloody meter, ack!

Online vs humans in the lobby, I hold my own there as well. I avoid 1v1 games, however, as there are some faction match ups that, for the moment, I feel are imbalanced and all but unwinable (Necron > Imperial Guard on small maps, for instance). The team games are my meat and potatoes and as it comes down to teamwork and team skill over game imbalances... most of the time.

Re: Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War --- Who plays this?

I have the original and I got the platinum edition not too long ago, so I've got all of the DoW games so far. I'm playing through the campaign in the first game though, because I hear it's got a good story.

I'm not that good in multiplayer, I don't think. I always lose horribly on the few occasions I go online. I guess I generally prefer a good story over the strategic aspects. Or, more likely, I just need more practice.

Re: Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War --- Who plays this?

Vanilla DoW's story was well done. I can't wait for another installment to the Blood Raven's epic.

Shall we start off with some Comp-Stomps to get the ball rolling then? We can then adjust the Comp's AI to suite our collective play level until we're all pretty comfortable with where we're at. Playing against humans, especially the veterans who frequent the lobby, can be pretty brutal at times.
