Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War --- Who plays this?
Yo!
After searching the forums and finding few mentions of this game, I was just wondering if there are any who play this game and/or its expansions. With the latest patch (1.20) released recently, a lot of things have changed and I am itching to try out how strategies have evolved as a result. Playing PU games is fine and all, but it'd be so much more fun to summon the, "WAAAAAAGH!!" with a core group to take the pubbies and, "Stomp'em flat." Tactical game seems like the perfect place to find such a group so drop a line if you're interested.

Its a great game, i have all of it. However i do say its more of a build more units then your opponent and rush them as fast as possible game.

What RTS isn't? Anyone remember the "Bunker rush" Terran strategy from Starcraft?
RTS strategy has always been about efficiency, especially during the early game.
WH40K just removed the need for massing peons at the main base and resource collection was eliminated in favor of map control. It's a wicked formula and is more like chess in that respect than most other RTS games.

I play, but I don't have the expansion. I found a mod that ups the annoying limit cap, but it doesn't work.

Yah, I've tried the mods here and there as well. But none of them worked either. I think they get broken when new patches come out and no bothers to update them. I guess it's tough for mods to compete when the expansions rock as much as they do. EA/Dice should take notes.

It's a less than legitimate copy. I can play over LAN or VLAN, but not over the internet.

I can't speak to that as my rig isn't up to snuff enough to play it. But on average, apart from the classic grunt rush or quick-build/quick-tech strategies, RTS strategy in the end means massing an army as fast as you can and sending them out where you think they will do the most damage.
DoW’s emphasis on map control over resource collection plays out more to my liking than other popular RTS games; the action is immediate and intense and makes turtling in one’s base most unwise. True, base rushing and early harassment strategies are more prevalent in DoW. But they are also far less effective than they were in other games.
