Re: Is there life in this bad boy?
With custom maps, I'd play this game more often! I just got tired of playing the same thing over and over and over... In this game, it seems like the maps are a bigger part of the actual gameplay than in other FPS games. Much more fun if you don't know the map, too.

Re: Is there life in this bad boy?
Why, of course! Did you really play the standard maps only all the time?
After we played a few we agreed to check out custom made missions and quite a few of them turned out pretty good (especially the Swat 3 map remakes).I really recommend checking these out. I'm checking out more and more over time and that's how the list has started growing on my pc/server and for now there is no end in sight yet. ![]() Together with the SSF mod you get a lot of gameplay fun since you can have more than 5 players, an element leader and a blue and a red team in MP mode. Also, AI doesn't shoot almost 100% accurate and don't kill you instantly. There is a much bigger chance now that they surrender to your warning or that you can kill them first. They also run off much further than before and act more intelligent in general, too. Weapons and armor make a bigger difference now, too. See the SSF mod's readme for more details. All in all, it's a lot of fun if you got teamworking people with you who don't run off and obey to orders (and only execute these). So far we were able to train each other to a point where most of the guys I play with don't do anything without being ordered to do so, just like the SP AI mates. Ok, we lack a TS server or so but so far we're pretty good at communicating with the advanced command menus from the mod (you can even issue commands to each team seperately) as well as using text chat. We usually play in my evening time (CET), which is about noon in the States, depending on the time zone.Last edited by Landorin; 11-27-2005 at 04:33 PM. |

Some of the maps are really crappy. Some are pretty good. I just played a couple and we controlled the movie theater's entrance and parking lot but the cinema was really tough. It's a huge open space to control!

Re: Is there life in this bad boy?
SWAt 4 deflated as soon as it came out. Players from swat 3 immediately had a game that detracted form the version they knew and loved. It's been out months and at best, there are about 5 decent new maps out for it.
The SSF mod is the best thing to come so far, but without support from the community, this game won't last. |

Re: Is there life in this bad boy?
There are 2 good mods for the game: SSF and Code 11. Both try for realism, and succeed.
If I had access to the box, I'd put up SSF, some new missions, and the like, but right now, I can't, and SWAT4 is pretty low on Apophis' To-Do list. I think that OFP and SWAT4 suffer from a criminal level of neglect in a simulation oriented community. Instead, we spend all of our time in the arcades, trying to shoehorn teamwork and tactics into CS:S and BF2, instead of playing the games that were designed for us. |

Re: Is there life in this bad boy?
Amen, Amen Brother...
(to Mateo)The add-on will light a fire under this great but neglected title... but I am quite surprised that no one has released an exe install "Map Pack" yet... I've seen a couple of maps, just to much trouble to find the good ones, then download and install them individually. I'm wishing for some hardcore, dedicated clan to collect the top 10 maps and put them all in a exe file. What this game needs is ALOT more maps, to keep it fresh... then it would be played more... playing the same 12 maps over and over get old quick, no matter how "random" the bad guys are. |
