SOPs really help new players understand what is expected of them BEFORE they get in game. In most cases they are not needed with TG regulars, but when players migrate to a game such as SWAT4 it is rather helpful for them to understand what they need to do without having it explained at the start of every single round in-game.

Magnum is right with this one. SWAT4 should be played in a slow, methodical, well planned, and disciplined style. The leader of each team should not exceed what the element leader has ordered, and his coverman should not stray more than a few steps from him.

This means that all players who are not the element leader do not get to act on their own initiative, but that's precisely one of the things this game is all about. If we want to act on our own initiative, we can play other games here at TG.

This is a win-win. I don't think anyone who plays SWAT4 at TG expects anything but a serious and very slow experience. And that's what we should provide.

And, as a final note, not everyone who plays SWAT4 here is a 'pillar of the community' or the member of an in-house squad.

    Re: The "I'm serious" thread...

We have a tight group of regular players that hop from game to game depending on its designated night. We all play those games cause we like the players, like minded players who know the way to play. We understand chain of command and orders simple as that

had that last night, sandman got thrown into leading his first round, was really awesome to watch us all just sit there and no do anything until he gave the order, even though we all knew the map and knew what to do.

Both admins want the same thing, keep it simple and clean. We as regulars will do everything in our power to make sure it stays that way
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

and thou the post was labeled "serious", I would hope people were smart enough to understand the inside jokes and comments... It was a serious critique of the problems I saw last night... but then I tried to add humor in it, that I guess some didn't get...

IE: "have you sitting behind a desk ordering flashbangs"
IE: "putting a round in you when you run off on your own"
    I'm humorless, you know that.

Well, I happen to be one of the nubi, and have been enjoying (very much) the SOP's of swat4. I have played a couple of weeks now of swat 4 and I admit, I am still learning. I will be becoming a supporting member soon, because of the "structure" here at TG. I've played quite a few different games w/ Magnum since being around TG and truley appreciate his level of skill and teaching of these various games, as well as other various members of this community. I also have to admit that I was confused last night with the numbering system only when my partner died, and I was not assigned a new partner or number. I was happy to read Magnums post wich clears this particular issue up! Great Job team! Communication is the Key!!!

I have another view about Element Leader. From my experience it is always the same few people who step up and take lead. Day in, day out and it starts to get a little bit frustrating.

With this in mind, If I play squad lead in any game then I do tend to want things done in a certain way. I'm (more than) happy for other's to take charge but when I have to make the game plan, I expect it to be done my way. If other people don't wish to lead then as far as I see it, they have no say what-so-ever. I guess I must be getting old

SWAT4 is a little different. Well, actually, no different than Ghost Recon. Those who don't want to lead may find themselves with "stripes" whether they want it or not. I know, I've been there.

People lack confidence to lead. This is because they don't know how to (or think they don't). What we should be doing is encouraging people to lead by providing some practice sessions. Not everyone here has had military experience or has read up on tactics - I think we all assume people know but that is not the case. We should do more in this field.

    Re: The "I'm serious" thread...

Id gladly join in on some EL/SL tactics and sessions. I see alot of leadership in some players everytime we play, more and more want to step up and helpout. I like to lead SWAT, its controlled and the experience of my element is great, they know what to do before i say it. The leadership is there, just needs a push

Jex you wanna join us tonight for some SWAT?

Would love to but when it's 7pm EST there, where I am it's 12:00am and I'm off to bed. Weekdays isn't good for me as I'm usually long in bed by the time you guys start gaming c'est la vie
