some questions

well I know there are probably threads that could answer some of these but I want opinions more than facts. I'm coming from an eq2 and d2 addiction back a couple years ago. I'm longing for a good multiplayer rpg and hellgate in its current state can't do it for me.

1. how is the level scaling? I know most of you are under 30 but does it become a hardcore boring grind or do they keep the pace reasonable, ie will I be playing 5-10+ hours for a level past the halfway?

2. combat pacing. I know it's a fusion of tactical shooter and mmorpg but is it mindless button sequences or active fps style combat. I notice a low amount of skills when looking at the character builder, does this mean combat relies more on normal attacks?

3. classes, could anyone comment on spy? I prefer high damage, low health, technique style characters like berserkers or assassins. would spy fit the bill for that?

Re: some questions

1. Level scaling slows down slightly as you reach 30 and beyond. However, as long as you keep pursuing and continuing missions, you'll never have to grind. The amount of missions you need to do to get to the next level increases, that's all. Each zone is pretty well-balanced in that regard (getting you to the level you need to be to survive in the following zone). So, no. No boring grind.

2. Mindless button smashing is okay in the first levels, but as you progress deeper into the game, the zones tend to crush those that don't pay attention to their surroundings. Logos abilities come into play the further into the game you go. As for Logos abilities themselves: how much you use them depends on how you've built your character. I'm a Guardian, and my current build is all about wading into the thick of things and smashing stuff with my staff. However, when I hit 50 I'll be a proper tank with damage-mitigating abilities and aggro-catching skills. And there are a LOT of abilities in-game. You retain the ability to use previous tier's skills, so if you went Guardian, you could pick and choose from the Commando, Soldier, and Recruit skills.

3. Snake Doctor currently plays a spy. From what he's said, spies are glass cannons. They do huge amounts of damage with their swords, are designed to sneak around the battlefield... and on the negative side of things most of their abilities are useless in PvP.

Re: some questions

1. Gill pretty much nailed it there, I've yet to feel like I'm grinding, and from beta experience that carries into the higher level tiers.

2. No mindless auto attack button mashing here. There is an autolock on feature, but with the pure amout of enemies, battlefield awareness and possible adds you get, it is probably the least used aspect of the game. Unless you use a shotgun, you actually have to target ala Battlefield to hit something. Enemies will move and dodge....cover matters as well as being a moving target. Kneeling gives you a damage bonus, but also makes you more vunerable. (unless you're behind cover.. )

- So in a way, combat does rely on normal attacks, but each weapon uses a different damage type which different enemies are resistant to. So you may use the LMB and shoot the same, but it does take thought in what you're using and when you're using it.

3. Like Gill said, spies are glass cannons. Just SICK damage with the sword and while their abilities don't translate well to PvP at the moment, for PvE you can just rock.

Polymorph can let you take on the look and ability of your enemies. Mag flash can blind them reducing their damage and accuracy. Traitor.....skip that one.

Sniper also is a high damage/lower health type character that takes technique. You can one shot kill almost anything in the game from a distance, but you have to plan how you're going to handle the aggro from the things pissed off buddies.

Honestly, L1on I think you'll love the game. I haven't had this much fun since the early days of WoW and I'd actually say I like TR better.

Re: some questions

Rangers get very nice PvP weapons called netguns, which can effectively immobilize an enemy target for critical moments.

Damonte has a level 30 Medic, but has discovered the joy of machine guns with his level 12 Soldier.

Re: some questions

L10N Once you get into the game and say you do go down to a spy and find out you dont like it, just load up one of your clones and roll another class, see what fits you.

I hope they add some end game content though, dosen't seem that there is much todo once you reach 50, except PvP(which is currently volunteer).

Re: some questions

Ah, well assuming it will be like City of Heroes in the aspect every so often they will have a nice content update. Of course that is to say I don't think they'll be new classes as such but I can see new areas or new planets even. Heck maybe even one day we can play as the Foreans(don't quote me on that just a thought).

The January content push will include a brand new "hybrid" race along with appropriate classes. It'll probably also include a revamped Medic class. Also expect PAU's MIGHT be added in time. And lastly, more elder content missions.

In the interim, they'll be adding elder content missions within the usual 2-week patch cycles.

In the long-term, "flashpoints" (e.g. raid content) will be added. (dunno when though)

The future looks bright, it's just a matter of if they get it out in time.
