Tabula Rasa beta

Welp, I got into the beta. I'm extremely happy as I've been waiting for another good science-fantasy game to emerge. I hope this is the one. Anyways, looks like they're chunking out a lot of keys so be sure to apply.

Re: Tabula Rasa beta

This game is very well made. I like it a lot so far. If you're strictly a fantasy buff though, I dont believe this is up your alley. It is definitely science-fantasy. That is, sci-fi with mystical lore and "supernatural" type elements, monsters, etc.

It still needs polish, but you can tell the game is a well-made piece of code and a lot of thought went into it to help re-define MMOs a bit.

Anyways, I urge those interested to try the beta as I assume there are still keys left if you hurry. Obviously, I cant talk about it much right now so the best way is to see for yourself.

Word of advice: spend your time on the EU server as the US server is overloaded at this time.

My toon's name: "Liquid Ghambit" I'm kind of just fooling around with him, but for now he's running the specialist chain on his way to biotechnician. He's kind of an "Evil Doctor" virologist type... poisoning everything in his path. Eventually, he'll strike panic into his foes and summon holographic armies and techno-homunculus'. GOD I love sci-talk!

Lastly, when the servers went up Richard Garriot himself (aka "Lord British") popped in to say hello and I got to talk to him a bit. LB is the man behind UO. THAT was pretty dang cool.

So far, a painless experience... easy client to DL and patch. Most fun in a beta I've had since WoW. (drum roll)

p.s.
Most of the "vibe" in-game is EXTREMELY positive. Everyone seems to like the game a lot. This is rare for me, because usually in betas like this there are many people bytching. Half the chat is people raining praise in some form or another. This is why Garriott showed up methinks, to catch the initial reaction... everyone was patting him on the back.

Re: Tabula Rasa beta

Yeah, 10000 keys were distributed on Monday of this week and the majority of those people landed on the US server. To say things were lagging would be an understatement. The servers really can't hold up to a load like that which is sad because unless they ramp things up significantly all those epic battles will go out the window.

On the US server I'd fire 20 shots, reload, fire 20 shots, unload a few lightning bolts and then sit there and wait as my first shot was just registering damage.

EU server was pure bliss. As for the US server, it was peak time and everyone was a newb (so everyone at the same quest locations). Same thing happened with WoW, only WoW was way worse. With WoW at release the server would just crash, along with the database lag, etc.

Yeah, maybe I'll try the EU server for a bit, but I'm in the Valley of CA so its a 'bit' further for me than FL.

In other news, Deleo also got in the beta.

Lets see if we can organize ourselves a bit. Post your last name and what server so we can maybe squad up and do some hardcore slaughtering. ^_^

Re: Tabula Rasa beta

On the EU server I'm "Liquid Ghambit", or "Solid Ghambit" (clone)

And for those that dont know what I mean by clone, yes, you can actually clone your toons whenever you want. What does this mean? Well, I cloned at lvl 5... so later on if I realize I wanted to take a different "path" I can revert to the clone I made at lvl 5. It's a REALLY neat trick I've never seen in any other MMO - yet another one of the subtle things TR is doing to change the genre a bit. It's these little things that has me so interested in the game, regardless of entertainment value.

On the US server I'm "Ghambit LeBoef"... but, I dont believe I'll be on the US server unless the lag goes away. I'll check tonite.

And yes, the servers are now open 24/7 at least until Monday... woot!

Re: Tabula Rasa beta

I've been playing this for a long time now, but haven't logged on recently because the lag has been horrible.

It's been the most polished beta I've ever been in so far, and I'm really enjoying the game. Lots and lots of action - anytime you step out of a base (hell even in the wilderness bases) you are going to get nailed by something.

Re: Tabula Rasa beta

Things seem to have died down a lot since that last beta push. Most of the time the servers are pretty empty, which kinda sux if you want to play with others.

I havent been online myself much lately, but there's no lag to speak of since they limited the servers and upgraded some things. The lag did its job, which was to test server load.

Anyways, where is everyone?? EU or US server?

I'm on the US server as Cam Dameon (main) or Bael Dameon (clone).

If I said I wasn't jealous I'd be lying! Hopefully the key will come soon.

Obviously the NDA restricts things, but anything you can speak about is appreciated. Glad to see you guys are liking the game

Re: Tabula Rasa beta

I had to go outside to nvidia to force AA. Without AA this game is unplayable. 8x aa for the win.

Re: Tabula Rasa beta

Got in yesterday and played some today...some minor ui bugs and such, but it's actually not that bad. AA definitely helps with my ATI 1950.
