You know I've been wanting to post that since I came up with the name.
With all the strum und drang surrounding Red Orchestra, it's easy to see why the "Club" isn't getting much forum time. Few threads, even fewer mentions. Noone, indeed, talks about the Tactical Gamer Game Club.
The games we play aren't going to be winners in the "OMG tha leetness" race: they are older or overlooked gems.
Take Operation Flashpoint for example: it's graphics are seriously dated-without the mods it would be difficult to play. Now, the only thing holding the game back is missions.
So to with Ghost Recon: Each game is sweet tactical goodness, only marred by the occassional "this mission again?"
America's Army is a natural fit with these two games, a slower, methodical tactical shooter that lends itself to teamwork and methodical execution.
These games are not going to appeal to those looking for the quick, arcadey fix of whatever hot game is out there. They don't appeal to the suicide buggy jockeys on BF2 server 1, nor do they appeal to players that claim they are tactical while running around shanking you on CS:S server 1.
In a word, each of the games in the Club's Rotation are, or should be, classics: games we savor like a 21 year old Macallan.
They appeal to a select few, those who take Tactical Gamer to heart and understand what we are about. To my mind, we only need 5 to 10 individuals to make this a success.
Noone talks about Tactical Gamer Game Club, but to my mind, that's ok.
I was talking about it in the BF2 forum and someone got all pissed about it, pretty funny actually. I'm trying to get a few more guys into America's Army too. We had about 14-16 guys Sunday so a few more would make for some really exciting rounds.
I still need to install OFP, I just hate trying to get that game setup but Ill suck it up and get it done.
Gotta link for that one turbo, might be interesting to see what it was all about. If i had more of the games i would be all over the game club, and i seen to have a problem with haveing time when the games are going on
Do we even need a forth game? Would a 3 week rotation be better?
Didn't think of that!
Originally, I thought: well, here are a batch of servers noone is using, let's pick 4 of them and see if we can get some life breathed into them.
I don't hear anyone clamoring to keep Day of Defeat: Source in the rotation, so that left an open slot to fill. I never thought about dropping the 4th night altogether.
Maybe make night 4 an Event Night? That way we could cycle in SWAT4, CoD2, or whatever, and keep the three week rotation?
I'd be up for a three-game rotation if you wanted to do that, but I really like the idea of having a revolving game every fourth week.
And I was ticked that I missed out on the AA action the other night -- that whole AuthServer issue irritated me, especially when I found out it came back up later.
The main reason i have not been stuck into game club after initial enthusiasm is lack of games. Even though i have a few of the titles i dont have the right version of them, eg i have OFP but only cold war crisis. I was disappointed that BF2 SF only gets dusted down once a month and im not really prepared to shell out more on games that will only occasionally see the light of day. I definitely plan on downloading AA at some point when i have the time to set the pc aside for the huge download though.

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
